Inferiority had a complex/sense of insecurity with the Europeans contact outside of Europe. When the Europeans embarked on different parts of the world they noticed that the people of these countries had melanin, skin color, in which they did not have. As Europeans explored even further, they concluded that they are the minority in the world. Hence, they wanted to be the majority. The problem with this desire was that the Europeans could not obtain a darker hue. This state of mind caused the Europeans to want to oppress the people opposite of them. So, they began seeking …show more content…
other means of gaining superiority.
The Europeans wanted to make the Native Americans feel inferior to them as they settled on their land.
They were violent towards the Native American people by violating their physical, social, and psychological integrity. Several Native American tribes were exterminated for the betterment and the gain of the Europeans. Thousands of Native Americans died at the hands of the Europeans. After King Phillip of Pokanoket was killed, his head was left for public display at Plymouth for twenty years. In another killing, the skeleton of the leader was left in a room for the Europeans as a trophy. Raritans were punished for offenses which had been committed by white settlers, not by them. These are some of the acts of terrorism that the white European settlers committed against the Native
Americans.
In a psychological aspect, the Tainos and Arawak people converted to the Europeans religion losing faith in their own beliefs. This manipulated the minds of these peoples into helping the Europeans become rich in land and other resources. The Miamis, Cherokees, Chickasaws, and many other tribes tried to remain stubborn and fight. The result was one of loss due to European weaponry being far advanced than of the Native Americans.
According to Fanon, Manichean Psychology is hard to counteract once it takes root in people, the environment and the culture. Native Americans wanted to end the loss of their tribes, force the Europeans back to sea, and preserve the rest of their land. Overtime, the Europeans gained more power over the Native American people. It became hard for them to fight back and take back what belonged to them. The ideologies of the European people became deeply imbedded in their cultures and way of life. The Iroquios fought hard to defeat the Europeans in hopes of gaining peace and their political independence. Instead they were defeated in massive bloodshed. Other tribes such as the Ottawas, also failed in such conquest. Although after time there were laws to try to protect the Native Americans and their land from the whites, in my opinion, by then it was already too late. Many lives were lost. Traditions, values, and integrity were stolen. These laws also had exceptions to them. Whites could only reside and trade on the Native Americans land with a license but could not stay on their land. They should have been banned from their land completely.
