In organized crime, nothing was left untouched. Especially in the roaring twenties, bootlegging was huge. As the prohibition was made law, making the purchase of alcohol illegal, the mafia began to make their own, creating a cheaper, better alcohol. This was a story that was discussed in “The Great Gatsby”, as that is where Gatsby gets all his funds from. But crime back then was not only bootlegging, men murdered, raped, and tortured anyone they could. It was mainly to get information.
