Theme Of Friendship In The Book Thief
Friendship. Probably one of the most important thing in a person’s life. Especially for Liesel Meminger. But, first things first, The Book Thief by Mark Zusak is a book about a girl named Liesel Meminger whose life got turned upside down within a short amount of time. Liesel began to lose all hope, until she got to know her foster father, Hans Hubermann. Allusion is a reference to a well-known person, place, event, literary work, or work of art. Liesel and Max Vandenberg’s, a Jew the Hubermanns are hiding, friendship is based on their allusion of Hitler. Their swapping of nightmares:
The girl: ‘Tell me. What do you see when you dream like that?’ The Jew: ‘…I see myself turning around, and saying goodbye.’ The girl: ‘I also have nightmares.’
