In the novel Lord of the Flies written by William Golding, is a book written about a group of British schoolboys whose plane crash lands on an island. There are no adults. There for the boys feel free to do anything, causing them to bring out the evil inside. The theme of the novel is leadership as they compete for the leader. The boys need to learn how to reach new levels of survival, while they are deserted on the island.
In the introduction we are introduced to Ralph the school boy with “fair hair” he lowered himself onto a bench and came across another boy, a chubby boy with asthma and thick glasses named Piggy. The boys build a fire as a signal for help. Just in case of a passing plane or a boat. Jack offers to have his choir split so someone is always watching the fire. “Ralph, I’ll split up the choir-- my hunters, that is-- into groups, and we’ll be responsible for keeping the fire going--”(Golding pg 43) In chapter the get off the island by fire. Jack wants revenge on Ralph. Jack's savage behavior comes out and he decides to set the whole jungle on fire. Ralph smells smoke and immediately knows what's going on he starts to panic because the all the fruit will burn, which does not help with their survival. In the end, Ralph sees a Naval officer and the officer tells Ralph that he saw all the smoke and decided to investigate all around the island. He eventually realized that there is life on the island and saved all the boys. Even with rivalry the boys tried their hardest to learn how to reach new levels of survival, while they are deserted on the island. One major way they learned to survive was with fire which in the end got them saved and off the
