The one piece that had held all the other pieces of evidence was the large jacket. As to everybody’s knowledge, William Taft was known for his size. Not many men were as large as Taft in the early 1900s. Whoever the shooter was, was wearing a large coat without causing distractions of it being so huge on the person. In other words, the jacket could of fit Taft without any complications. In this large jacket, some foreign coins were found. Taft has been out of the United States, to Europe in matter of fact, and he could have kept those foreign coins with him for good luck, or maybe even a foreign coin collection. Altogether, Taft’s little so called “vacation” to Europe, may have gotten him into a lot of trouble. A button with an elephant on it is simply straightforward, a Republican button. Williams Taft was a heavy-hearted Republican. He was even friends with Teddy Roosevelt, until one main issue came across them, and they had different viewpoints about the situation. Also, Taft was running for the presidential campaign on 1912. Teddy Roosevelt was a republican, so as Taft was. To ease out Taft’s competition, there is no better way than just shooting at one of your main competitors to get rid of him. Once the shot is done, then he could go back to his presidential campaign and be the only candidate for the Republican Party and hopefully win the election of 1912. Talking about eliminating competition, William Taft had a team behind him that would also want him to win.
There was note that read, “Thanks, my friends, I know we’re going to do it.” This note is basically stating that the plan to kill Roosevelt was actually pretty well planned out within Taft’s party. Since William Taft was a main political figure in Washington D.C., it only makes sense that he would be living there. In the large jacket, there was a train ticket from Washington D.C. Not many people got to live there, but mainly big politicians. In this investigation, there was no other suspect that would be living in Washington D.C., or possibly the museums there and then randomly getting a train ticket to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. William Taft is the only reasonable person to get a train ticket from Washington D.C. Since the American people know that William Taft was a heavy-hearted Republican, it would only make sense that he would be going to the Republican convention in Chicago. A map of Chicago would be necessary to get to place to place, or even go see sight-seeing for matter of fact. A key piece of evidence that was found was a map of Chicago. Once again, it doesn’t
make
as much sense for other suspects to have this map, other than for William Taft. The Republican convention was a major thing that William Taft would not have the nerve to miss. The last piece of evidence that was found in the very large jacket was a picture of Teddy Roosevelt taken at a Rough Rider Reunion. Once again, not many suspects could be carrying this around with them. Since Teddy Roosevelt and William Taft were such very good friends in 1905, Taft would logically be there supporting Teddy Roosevelt and the Rough Riders. Roosevelt and Taft had very similar ideas, but competition between these two went to great lengths. Through the whole investigation, Williams Taft has all the reasoning to want to shoot and kill Theodore Roosevelt. Even though a couple of pieces don’t add up to Taft, he still adds up to most of it. To conclude, William Taft was the one who shot and killed Theodore Roosevelt.
