Tone is the author's attitude toward the subject s/he is writing about. Hughes uses tone when he wrote this poem to help us understand it’s feeling through words and emotion. In this quote the mother also tells her son “Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair. It's had tacks in it, and splinters, and boards torn up, and places with no carpet on the floor, bare” (2-7). The tone in this quote shows how the mother’s life has many rough spots. Hughes wrote this poem to try and show us life is not easy in anyway. The tone used for this poem is hardship and will power. Hughes used this tone because he wanted us to see how hard the mother's life is, but also that she keeps going and never gives up. The tone connects to the theme of this poem, because the tone shows how the mother keeps going no matter what life throws at her in the end.…

Some of the robots were made to be animals, such as the cleaning mice. Not only did these robots take the form of a living creature, Bradbury also described behavior traits nearly as emotions that are only seen in living things. He wrote that the cleaning mice robots were “angry” at the inconvenience of cleaning up the mud the living dog brought into the house (Bradbury 873). The author would use the tone to convey his attitude towards the subject. Additionally, the author also uses a different kind of tones to indicate his certain purpose of the story. The readers will get a different kind of mood while reading a story. For an example, while I read "The Rattler" I got different emotions and feels that were usually inconsistent according to the situation in a story such as frighten, scare, sadness and enraged. In one of the storylines said, "I listened for a minute to this little song of death. It was not ugly, though it was ominous. It said that life was dear, and would be dearly sold. And I reached into the paper-bag bush with my hoe and, hacking about, soon dragged him out of it with his back broken." Basically,…

Teasdale wrote “There Will Come Soft Rains” with an abundance of imagery through its stanzas. “Robins will wear their feathery fire” (5) is only one of the many examples of the imagery used and it states that if the human race was to perish, animals behavior would not alter to much degree. Deer would still prance, salmon would still swim upstream, monarchs would still migrate, robins would still have their stunning red feathers, and all of the animals would not . Written in the poem is the statement, “And wild plum trees in tremulous white” (4). This is a statement meant to prove, just like the animals, plants would not know that our existence is no more or have to modify. After the mention of the coming of soft rains, the poem reads, “Swallows…

‘There Will Come Soft Rains’ made me feel absolutely devastated. Immersing me slowly in its melancholy world of rubbles, dust and ashes burning away in a nuclear war. Is by far the shortest, sharpest and most depressing short story that I have ever read. ‘There Will Come Soft Rains’ is a snapshot that perfectly captures all of the social paranoias in society during the post war period of the 1950s. Rendering the beautiful and power mind of Ray Bradbury in a 4 page short story. Bradbury was at his absolute best when portraying the overwhelming sense of desolation and bleakness throughout the story. Like Ray Bradbury’s other short story ‘The Veldt’, ‘There Will Come Soft Rains’ is a story that is able to teach yet another stingingly unforgettable lesson about technology that shines…
