Towards answering “What is the power of science fiction on technological development?” I am doing research, which I find information on how science fiction influences the technological advances and vice versa. My goal is to explain the relationship between science fiction and the technological development, and, at the same time, their relation to the course topic: the alien metaphor and the science fiction. Firstly, I will present the soft science fiction book There Will Come Soft Rains of Ray Bradbury. This short story is about a technological house that stands after a nuclear blast and continues doing its regular activities like cleaning and making the food. Bradbury describes the routine with an ironic perspective and compares it to the in-text citation of the poem There Will Come Soft Rains of Sara Teasdale (Bradbury 5). The ironic link between both is that the house carry out its regular pattern while it is ignorant of the absent of its owners that die in the nuclear blast. This article reflects how we can wear our technology to modify our life style. Likewise the science fiction had undergone a modification to continue to be science fiction. In past science fiction plays such as 2001: A Space Odyssey by Sir Arthur Charles Clarke where some of the equipment described is similar to our current technology like cellphones and tablets (Novarese 1).
