In society we become blind to a lot of different actions, but also to the truth. We deny a lot, and make excuses for a lot of our actions. This is because we as students are subject to a place for almost 8 hours a day, 5 times a week usually, and within that time so much happens. Friendships come and go, relationships end on a brutal note, but the number one thing that happens in every high school, whether people like to admit it or not, is rumours and bullying. You may be asking “ what does this have to do with the schools?”, well whenever i have gone to a new school i always hear them say “ we have zero tolerance for bullying!”, but do they really? Do they actually deal with bullying? Maybe in some cases yes, if it’s serious enough, though usually the kids are just turned away with a pat on the back being told “ it’ll stop eventually, so just ignore it.”. For example in the book HannaH goes to Mr.Porter their school guidance counselor to seek help about being raped and all the rumours and things that are happening, and of course what does he say as an option “ you can move on from it.”. That is why schools fail to protect their students from being subjected to situation where if they go on long enough the kid kills themselves… it’s reality, also with the Rehtaeh Parsons case, look how many authorities she went to; the school, the RCMP, and they all seen what was going on, but it was just pictures on the internet so it’d go away soon, and they didn’t help her… Rehtaeh died from suicide and only then did they get involved to make it stop and press charges... the school systems don’t provide us with proper help when we need it, for example at Avon View the wait period to see a guidance counselor at the moment is two weeks. In the span of two weeks the problem could get worse or resolve, but that’s not the point, the point is that we don’t have the assistance we need when we need
