Water pollution has had devastating effects on the environment, which include irreversible effects to the ocean's ecosystem, health problems and abnormal conditions.
interference of the ocean's ecosystem
- Plastic storage bags can kill animals in the oceans like dolphins, turtles and whales. It is easy for wildlife to swallow and eventually causes death. * Over 1.5 billion tons of plastic water bottles end up in US landfills each year. It takes over 300 years to degrade.
health problems
-Spread of diseases * Lead. Lead is hazardous to health as it accumulates in the body and affects the central nervous system. Children and pregnant women are most at risk. * Fluoride. Excess fluorides can cause yellowing of the teeth and damage to the spinal cord and other crippling diseases.
-Affects body organs * consumption of highly contaminated water causes us injury to heart and kidneys.
-Harms animal * birds that get into oil-contaminated water die from exposure to cold water and air due to feather damaged. Other animals are affected when they eat dead fishes in contaminated streams.
abnormal conditions (harmful chemicals, changes in water temperatures)
- the discharge of heated-up water from thermal and nuclear power plants into a river can cause problems for aquatic organisms, which are fairly used to specific temperatures
- water could also be polluted via the entry of acidic substances into the water bodies through rivers, seas and oceans. * . The effects of water pollution by this process, known as acidification, can involve the destruction of entire coral reef communities.
Water pollution is a major global problem which requires ongoing evaluation and revision of water resource policy at all levels. According to “environmental science ,fourth edition” Water pollution is any physical, biological, or chemical change in water quality that adversely affects living organisms or makes water unsuitable for desired
