The time and place effects this document because the same year that the source happened (1663) is when Maryland legalized slavery. Alsop is writing this because many started to question whether indentured servants were slaves or workers. Also, I knew that indentured servants came over to the New World for free but then worked for a certain number of years to pay off their travels.
Plus, the government systems back in the past were more empowering.
