I believe that I listened and responded appropriately to my client. The way I know this is because he would affirm that I had paraphrased or summarized his story correctly. Also, in this session I used reflection of content, meaning, and feeling to demonstrate to my client I was listening. The other way I showed the client I was listening to him was by using minimal encouragers and by connecting content from previous sessions to the current one.
4. The one skill I wish I would have used more was reflection of feeling. I was happy that I was able to improve on this skill compared to the second session, however, I would have liked to use this skill a bit more. I also did not practice confrontation in this session. In this session, I was able to use reflection of feeling, content, meaning, and minimal encouragers. Also, I was able to practice a little bit of goal setting at the end of the session with my client.
5. One personal experience that came into play when working with the client was I had a similar experience after Fall Break. Just like my client, I have a long commute to school and after break, it was difficult completing that drive. Also, my client discussed being exhausted that first week back which was something I also struggled with.
