Many times in today's society, beauty is a word that is used to describe someone's physical appearance. People view beauty by what they see in the media, in magazines, and on television. Beauty is not looking like what we see in today's media. It isn't about weighing one hundred and ten pounds, nor having a "ripped" body. Beauty is having a personality. Beauty is having fun, and enjoying life. Beauty does not come from the outside, but rather from within. In a country where roughly 50% of marriages end in divorce, it just goes to show you that the media has such a strong affect on people's minds. People are so concerned about physical attractiveness that they lose site of what true beauty is. It's not something that can be seen with one's eyes, but rather felt with one's heart. Beauty is a feeling from within: it is love and appreciation.
To see the beauty in something you need to have a certain passion about it. To me the sport of football is beautiful. Some people may see it just a game for oversized muscle heads, but to me it's so much more. I can break down one play, and see so much beauty in it. From the snap of the ball, until the ball carrier gets tackled. I can see beauty in the quarterback dropping back, avoiding the pressure put on by the defense, then he let's the ball go: tight spiral. As the ball floats through the air, you finally see the quarterbacks' target, his receiver, running down the field to catch the ball. He leaps up into the air, over the defender to make an amazing one handed catch. To me this is beautiful. I have a love, a passion for the game, which allows me to see it completely different from what some other people may see. Football is beautiful to me, because I love and appreciate the game.
Watching a tiger hunt down its prey is something else that can be used as an example of beauty. It all begins with the stealth that the tiger displays to sneak up on its target. Followed by the bounds and leaps the tiger uses to catch up to its now fleeing prey. The finally the target is caught, and the tiger feasts. This is beautiful because it's nature doing its thing. The beauty is not watching the tiger rip its prey to piece, but rather the entire hunt as a whole. Beauty is the grace the tiger the displays while running. Beauty is appreciating why the tiger does what the tiger does. To some this act may be gross and disgusting, but that is because they have no appreciation for the tiger's means of survival.
The whole concept of beauty is so abstract it's hard to explain what it really is. It is different things to different people. Everyone has their own preferences, their own idea's of what beauty is. "One mans trash is another mans treasure" so to speak. One person may find this essay to be a thing of beauty, while another finds it to be boring and pointless. To truly understand what beauty is, you just need to find out what you find is beautiful. Truthfully, one doesn't need to know what beauty really is, but rather one need to know what beauty is to him or herself. Once that is determined, then any other meaning or definition of the word is completely irrelevant.

The common physical beauty is what Elaine Scarry called “a symmetry of everyone’s relation to one another” in her book called On Beauty and Being Just (1999). This means that beautiful subjects or objects are evenly proportioned and ideal in all their forms. In other words, if symmetry is perfection, then beauty is perfection too. At the same time, as absolute symmetry does not exist- beauty is a divine feature of “chosen”. Meanwhile, I have my own interpretation of physical beauty. This is the idea of beauty that is not just a physical appearance of a person or object. This is the universal “beauty” I was talking about in the introduction of the paper. In my opinion, physical beauty that relates to the beauty of objects or subjects…

How does one measure beauty? Is it measured by the depth of an individual’s personality, or perhaps by the goodness of a person’s heart? Of course that would entail actually having to interact with someone longer than the casual glance and judge routine we have spent generations mastering. No matter how twisted, cracked, and deformed a person’s soul may be doesn’t matter, as long as they have enough cosmetics to cake on and can afford some minor surgery that is. In today’s society we measure beauty through what we see and what we are told is beautiful, because deciding on our own would just be too difficult. Thankfully we have the influence of things like television and celebrities to guide the way into the glamorous world of beautiful people. Because who cares if the majority of your beauty could be removed with a moist tissue and you haven’t seen food in a week as long as you look pretty.…

Although many can agree on certain things as being beautiful, beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder. If what is beautiful to one may not be beautiful to another then beauty can be described as an opinion. One can have an opinion and another can agree, however, both are opinion. So what is beauty? How and why do humans seek beauty? If I can easily come to a conclusion that beauty is as individual as we are human. Then I had to ask myself how do we experience beauty. Is it experienced through our sense of sight? We experience a beach, or mountain as being a beautiful thing we are looking at. Yet the answer is not so simple. Why is that beach or mountain beautiful? What about the things that happen to us that can be just as beautiful? I think that when we experience beauty, we experience beauty through all of our senses based on the meaning we put behind our thinking of its beauty. Does this mean that people seek out that which is meaningful to them and find that beautiful?…

There is no set definition of beauty. Beauty is very broad and opinionated. What one may define as beautiful may vary. What some observers find beautiful may not be beautiful to others. Beauty can be found anywhere, at any time and any place. From the Jim Germaux’s exhibition in the Roper Gallery the painting Parallel Play was the most striking work of art. Not only is this work eye catching, but it so abstract it requires you to just stop and examine the artwork.…

Everyone has their own opinions on what beauty consists of. It is in cliché expression “beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” This means beauty can come from within a person’s soul or from the outside of looking at woman’s body. As it just happened, saying the word “beauty” on most occasions comes hand in hand with the word woman. In the story “A Woman’s Beauty: Put – Down or Power Source” by Susan Sontag. Sontag states; “To be called beautiful is thought to name something essential to women’s character and concerns. (In contrast to men whose essence is to be strong or effective, or competent.)” (Sontag.488.1) The word beautiful may not seem synonymous with men in 2015 but handsome is, as the word “handsome” feels more masculine.…

When you look in the mirror, do you see “beautiful”? Did you know that there’s a kind of beauty that isn’t tangible? Beauty is more than one might think; it is more rare. Those who have seen it know it to be something that cannot be captured by a photograph, it must be told by a story. If it has not been clear yet, beauty is not by any means physical aesthetics, but rather it is the actions that make-up an appealing disposition. Through the centuries, so many have wrongly credited beauty to be a person’s looks. The inevitable problem with that kind of beauty is the ever changing idea of what it is, and how it fails to express true beauty.…

There are a whopping seven billion people currently living on this Earth. That means that there are seven billion different opinions, outlooks, and definitions on the word “beauty”. Though, when it comes to that word, most people generally link it to physical appearance when it is so much more about what is on the inside. Although beauty encompasses a lot of things, most are affected by social media on how we look, over critical judgement about self and others that can affect the mental and physical health of the person.…

As the very popular saying goes, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!" Many people have different views on what they consider to be beautiful which is why many people that I would view as unattractive are very beautiful in someone else's eyes. The world today defines beauty based on outward appearances alone. You are not beautiful if you are not physically attractive. According to the world's standards, beauty means being thin and tall. A clear complexion, shiny hair, straight teeth, radiant skin, and correct proportions are all elements of beauty. Unfortunately, numerous people cannot be all of these things and they are forced to believe that they are not beautiful in the eyes of others. Another saying that is very popular is, "Beauty is only skin deep." I do not believe that this statement is true for the reason that with all the cosmetic surgery, technology and make-up that we have in the world today beauty is bought and not natural. Beauty can also be determined by a person's personality and not necessarily by their looks because the way a person presents him or herself can make all the difference in the world. The most unattractive person can also display beautiful characteristics and it will conceal their appearance. Is beauty only conveyed in one particular color? No, African Americans are produced in many different shades, vanilla, caramel, mocha, coffee and chocolate. Black is in fact beautiful and there is no other race that can measure up to the beauty that is displayed by African Americans. In my opinion, people should not focus solely on the outside appearance because that can damage ones self-esteem. Parents should raise their children to appreciate the thoughts and actions of a person opposed to the looks of a person. Our priorities in American today are not at all in order but maybe one-day society will learn that beauty is not…

It is often said that "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" and this goes to prove that beauty is highly subjective. We all obviously have different tastes. What appears beautiful to one person may seem ugly or not so beautiful to another. It is the person who is looking (the beholder) who has to form his or her own opinion whether a particular person, place or object is beautiful. Many literary researchers believe that Margaret Wolfe Hungerford (née Hamilton), who wrote prolifically under the pseudonym 'The Duchess' was the first person ever to write "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder". In her book Molly Bawn written in 1878, the line "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” appears for the first time in print.…

You will feel really wonderful, if you will imagine, our whole life is just for discovering beauty. But the difference is the definition of beauty in individual eyes. First of all, try to feel, realize that at every moment we seek for beauty and this beauty is divine. To know how to smile is a beauty. To work skill fully is a beauty. Every kind of artistic expression is a beauty. To play enthusiastically, in disciplined manner and skill fully is a beauty. To weave something properly or clean a room nicely is nothing but an expression of beauty. But we could not discover the beauty hidden in each moment, so we run after the deformations which seems to our ignorant mind as beauty. All kind of dissatisfaction, desires, grieves, unhappiness arises due to that. We are never satisfied with our condition. Because the things we are searching can never give us happiness because they are not real beauty. Our true goal of life is to unveil the hidden beauties of every moment of our life.…
