Beauty vs Truth: Elements of Effective Communication
Is truth or beauty more important when communicating information.

It is my argument that beauty is more important when communicating information.

Beauty is defined as The quality that gives pleasure to the mind or senses and is associated with such properties as harmony of formation or color, excellence of artistry, truthfulness, and originality.

How does this relate to communication?

• Communicating information is more than just exchanging words. Just as in the definition of the word “beauty”, when communicating with a certain amount of eloquence it paints a mental picture that gives pleasure to our minds and wakes up our senses. The way words are used in the process of communication is what holds attention and causes an audience to become engaged. It's the beauty in a message and the expression in the words which we tend to remember. This is not to say that truth is not important in communication but mere stating mere facts may not be enough to get the point across or keeping the attention of an audience.

• Beauty is more important in communication because it is what leads us to the truth. Sometimes the truth is too ugly and mind blowing and in some instances too much truth all at once can cause pain. Everyone should know the truth but using a certain diplomacy and finesse with one's words can make all the difference in how the truth is received. That is why beauty in communication is important .

ANOTHER PERSPECTIVE ON TRUTH AND BEAUTY

• A story doesn't necessarily have to be true to be entertaining, or to teach a lesson.

How many of us as children or have even possibly told our own children about the tortoise and hair?

✓ A tortoise and a hare enter a race, the hare boasting about how he is faster, and will therefore win. The hare foolishly over-estimates his speed, and it ends up costing him the race. With the moral of the story being that over – confidence can

Beauty is all around us. It is in everything we do and see. What one may view as beautiful another may disagree. It all depends on the person and the insight they have and the things around them. Beauty has many different elements and functions. Dictionar.com states “the quality present in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure or deep satisfaction to the mind, whether arising from sensory manifestations (as shape, color, sound, etc.), a meaningful design or pattern, or something else (as a personality in which high spiritual qualities are manifest).” Merriam-websters.com says “the quality or aggregate of qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit.” And last but not least thefreedictionary.com says “The quality that gives pleasure to the mind or senses and is associated with such properties as harmony of form or color, excellence of artistry, truthfulness, and originality.” Let’s take a look inside the eye of the beholder.…

The term ‘beauty' may have very relative significance. Something can be beautiful for us, but ugly for other people. The external beauty of a person is often the first thing that we pay attention to. This is the result of the association of beauty with good and ugliness with evil. Through the outer appearance we make a general opinion about a given person. Such a way of thinking may be very misleading. In order to get to know the person we need to look to the inside – into the soul. This is the place where the real beauty and ugliness are hidden.…

Over the time, a lot of definitions have been given to beauty. According to Saberi Roy (N.D.), a psychologist-writer-analyst, “Beauty can be attributed to everything that appeals to people’s senses and all objects that are compatible with people’s personal preferences. Beauty as perceived, is largely a projection of a person’s needs and beautiful objects or persons simply cater to his/her idealizations or fancies and reflect his/her natural need to relate to all that is appealing. Human beings are controlled by the senses and tend to repeat processes or experiences that appeal to the senses, that are harmonious and have structure and form. Beauty appeals to the sense of sight so there is a preference for repeating the experience of beauty.”…

Beauty is skin deep; refers to the outward beauty of a person. We know and realize that a person can be beautiful on the inside. A person with a beautiful mind, we can say him/her as a nice person. But when we listen something beautiful we generally indicate that something outward appearance. So beauty is skin deep; this statement tries to highlight that person’s outward appearance counts for nothing but it is what lies beneath the skin, the real person himself or herself is what actually matters. And I believe the underlying message of this saying is true. In my research I tried to justify this statement by applying different theories and real life examples. I tried to see what people think about the definition, dimension and criteria of beauty and also tried to know how they perceive it in their lives. After doing research I have confirmed that this statement is justified ethically because most people had gone with my opinion.…

Everyone looks at beauty differently and everyone has his or her own definition of it. In today’s society beauty is seen as a person’s psychical appearance, what clothes they wear, their hair and make-up, and even the shape of their body. The World English Dictionary’s first definition states beauty as “the combination of all qualities of a person or thing that delights the senses and pleases the mind.”(“Beauty” N. pag.) I agree with this definition because I believe beauty goes deeper than the appearance of a person that it is the combination of all a person’s qualities. Too many people do not see beauty for what it really is but only see it as a psychical quality. Beauty is more than skin deep; beauty is kindness, gratefulness, courage, unselfish love, and happiness.…

What I qualify beauty as is inner and outside beauty in people. Also nature, when I see those really green grass makes them look beautiful or when it’s snowing up in the mountains it graves my attention. Colorful things as paintings or any other colorful things that grab my attention even if they are weird I will qualify them as beauty. Mainly everything is beauty including feelings. Feelings are beauty because they express many things and you could express them by writing, painting, drawing, talking them out, or any other creative way. I could continue going on describing what beauty actually means to me but many people in this world would disagree or maybe agree with me regarding what beauty stands for. And it’s valid that everyone has a different opinion about beauty. I value beauty a lot because for me is what we see more in this world.…
