The man believes the typewriter is Ernie Pyle’s because his grandfather won it in a poker game in the 1950’s or 60’s. He won the typewriter from a guy named George Pratt. George
Pratt was in the same unit with Ernie Pyle’s in the Pacific.
3. How does the detective start his investigation of the typewriter?
The first thing that Wes does to investigate the type writer is simply just examine it. He also looked at the portability of the typewriter. There was also a few patent dates of 1904, 1910 so that means that it has to date after 1910.
4. .Why is it important to get the typewriter working? What did the comparison of the documents show?
It’s important to get the typewriter working so they can verify if it was actually Pyle’s typewriter. After the documents were examined we could clarify that Pratt was there when
Pyle was killed. Even though Eric’s typewriter didn’t match any of the documents from Pyle’s archive Pratt was in fact with Pyle when he died and might have been in a position to obtain his typewriter.
5. What is the conclusion of the detective?
The conclusion is that Pratt was in fact with Pyle when he died. But, this means that there isn’t actual evidence that it was Pyle’s typewriter.
