Role of Engineers Today
Greatness has nothing to do with where you are and what resources are available to you. People who achieve great things in life need just one thing – passion. That passion has a power to propel you through all uncertainties and make you a superhero. Time and again this basic fact of life has been proved. Yet we find students losing the battle of life as early as after a failure in IIT JEE. We hope the story of Danish Chopra can mirror the real picture of the requisite of success.

The case student for this project will be Derrick Shepherd. Derrick’s diagnosis is Down syndrome. Derrick is in 4th grade, 10 years old, and has an IQ of 39. Derrick can say approximately 25 words, all which are hard to understand unless you are familiar with his language. He has hypotonia and fine motor difficulties, so he has a hard time manipulating small objects and holding onto pencils, pens, and other similar objects. Because of his fine motor difficulties, his writing is slow and hard to read. As far as academic knowledge, Derrick can read a small amount of names and words and he knows numbers one through ten. Due to the fine motor difficulties and lower academic knowledge, Derrick could show significant improvements by using assistive technology. Derrick could be able to utilize technology similar to iPad software or computer programs to assist dysgraphia. This could help him be able to more legibly complete assignments and learn new material without having to hold or pick through small objects like pencils and paper. The AT would need to improve Derrick`s independence, self-sufficiency, personal choice, participation, inclusion, and dignity (Dell, 2008). Assistive technology is defined as “Any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially off the shelf, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional…

The practicality of an Engineer is what first intrigued me to discover more about what this field entails. It wasn't until when I learned about how important that Engineering was to the world that finally captivated me to commit my life to it. There is definitely no doubt that Engineering is what runs the world. The role that it plays in everyday life is what keeps society running. As complicated that it may seem, Engineering has always been considered natural to me. For most of the aspects that is found in an Engineer's life are things that I believe I have as well. The fact that I am proactive, analytic, and composed when faced with tough situations are simply a few traits that will definitely guide me as I take this road to become a professional Engineer. The reason why I wanted to become an Engineer wasn't a hard choice that I had to make at all. It was which exact field that I would most likely succeed in that forced me to decide. Having to choose Mechanical Engineering as opposed to all the other Engineering majors has got to be one of the biggest life decisions that I have made so far. Truth be told, I simply want to make an impact on this world. I want to change it for the better. If I could play at least a small role in changing the way we all live and the way our future generations would benefit from my efforts, then I would be very more than proud to have become an Engineer. Given the perks that Engineers may have, I believe Engineering holds a higher sense of meaning to our society. It amazes me that Engineers have the opportunity to lead this technological frontier that society has been experiencing thus far. They have developed, improved, and pressed on to higher limits that restricted society. Engineers are the ones take on ideas and make them into realities. There is absolutely nothing else out there that would intrigue…

Engineering has affected my life by transporting, sheltering, and expanding my knowledge. Engineering is important to me, but not just me, everyone because without engineers/engineering we would not be as smart as we are now. My quality of life has increased because of engineering. Engineering has helped my quality of life increase by improving my surroundings, and 90% of people’s knowledge is based off of engineering because Robert E. Kahn and Vint Cerf created the “Internet” and solid information was added to make it a source of info. The word engineering I would say is a subheading of the word Technology and technology has been around for thousands of years. Engineers are people who design and build machines and other helpful types of objects. Tools created by the engineers helped the culture and it made that engineer become a little smarter. Engineers are the people who design and develop things that you use every day. From the alarm clock that wakes you in the morning to the toothbrush that cleans your teeth before bedtime, many of the things you use have been engineered for you. Students identify the engineering that impacts their day-to-day life. One reason is shortage; we lack people to design things to better our lifestyles. Another reason is that engineers make new things and improve old things so we can live safe and easy lives. As long as we have engineers we can improve as people.…

The magic of hard work and perseverance cannot be underestimated. We see in general that people who have succeeded in life have done an immense amount of hard work and their success is we all see, but the effort put in, we fail to measure. We do wonder how he could achieve so much, but it is absolutely certain that achievement has come his way after much of continued effort. Most of us do make efforts but, soon lose heart and leave our projects and this is why we fail to reach the pinnacle of success. It must be clear in our minds that, we never can achieve with just a simple raising of a finger, we have got to put our heart and soul in a particular job and that also with continued vigour in every attempt then only we can hope for any success. Those of us who leave effort midway are obviously left midway by success also, and then we are disheartened and broke, just to ogle jealously at those who have succeeded. If we have the confidence in our effort, there is nothing that can deter us from…

But I do not believe that if everyone or you follow what you want or what is the desire of your heart success you will surely succeed in life. As I have watched the movie, Rancho is an excellent student, he not just an excellent student, he can also be called a genius or a prodigy in mechanics, he succeed because he did not waste his talent or gift, he did not just use it, he used it to its fullest and follow excellence. Rancho did all of this because he is intelligent and it is his passion. What if Rancho is not that intelligent, that he could not possibly pass an entrance exam to ICE (Imperial College of Engineering) but he want to be an engineer would he be able to success as an engineer? As for Raju, he is also successful because he, is also a good student, though always last of the list of the passers, but he still manages to pass the exams. We all know that not all the exams all the students will pass, there will always be a student who will fail, though he loves or his passion is in engineering and do his part to follow his passion. In the movie, Raju became a successful man since he is also a good student and engineering is his passion. Farhan, is an excellent student in engineering. He is able to pass the…

I was raised in a strange town named Bokaro. The people of Bokaro have great respect for the IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) because back in 1993, a student of the town (Prasoon) secured All India Rank 1 in the entrance test of the IITs (JEE). This was a colossal event in the history of Bokaro and the people in the town were mesmerized by this achievement. Upcoming students viewed Prasoon as an idol and every parent in the town wanted his kid to be an IITian. Some people capitalized on this dream and numerous JEE preparation institutes were opened in the town. Some good results in JEE in subsequent years ensured that Bokaro was transformed to an industry which produced IITians. Right from grade 6, kids who have an inclination towards…

Success is never an accident, but is always by design. I believe perseverance, drive, passion and strength of character create the right formula for success. I schooled at one of Asia’s premier institutes, Mayo College Girls School. I was thrilled to discover myself here – playwright, artist, cross country runner, accomplished dancer, webdesigner and most importantly a leader, having led my teams to success in a variety of events. I have been active in extra curricular activities and as the assistant editor of school newsletter and a student council member I have held noteworthy posts in school. Living with people from various backgrounds here, taught me to absorb the best that each individual and culture has to offer. By the time I left school I had developed an original point of view and confidence and versatility had become an innate part of my nature. I pursued a Bachelors of Mass Media from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai. We had practical industry based projects throughout. Be it forming more effective media plans for existing products, making documentaries, doing consumer surveys or designing ads for products, we always had to be innovative and quick witted to be able to perform well. Once we sent forward our findings of de-sync between the company and the consumers view of the Moto phones to the Motorola head of manufacturing. He responded saying, he was extremely impressed with our work and said the company will look into our findings. It was a reward for all our hard work. These group projects taught me to be a team player and increased my awareness. I was able to polish my communication skills and develop an innovative and analytical bent of mind. Having been sent out to a boarding school for growth and exposure, the concept of the…

Human beings are creatures than can be influenced easily, they tend to follow what others are practising. The current world has defined that people should be judged based on their academic excellence, and it has caused an obligation among people to strive towards academic excellence due to the higher demands of top achievers in the career world. However, most of us have neglected the fact that academic excellence is not the sole factor to determine one’s future. What is the use of academic excellence when the person does not even possess the knowledge of basic living and surviving skills? Henceforth, I staunchly disagree with the statement that academic excellence guarantees a successful life because basic living skills , disicpline and also the maturity of a person determines his or her survival in the rat-race world.…
