This Month's Genre Reflection: The Tale Of Despereaux
For this month's Genre Reflection I read The Tale of Despereaux or should I say the Tail of Despereaux (because he is a mouse). The book is written in four parts as well as a coda. The first three parts are written from a certain character's perspective and the fourth a culmination of them all.
The first book is told from the point of view of the mouse Despereaux. Despereaux is not like other mise. He was born with very large ears as well as his eyes open. He spends most of his days in the castle library reading. However one day he hears music and follows the music to Princess Pea who he then talks to. When the king sees him however he sends him back because mice are distantly related to rats which are banned. When Despereaux returns to the mouse kingdom his father banishes him to the dungeon for speaking to a human.

The second book follows a rat named Roscuro who is very different from other rats. While most other rats prefer to stay in the dark, Roscuro prefers the light and the color in the castle. He also meets Princess Pea and she does something that changes him…
The Third book follows a human by the name of Miggery Sow who worked on a farm until she saw the princess ride by on her horse and the she decided she wanted to be a princess. After moving to the castle to help the cook deliver meals to the dungeon keeper named Gregory. While at the castle she becomes lazier and lazier and gains more and more weight. While in the dungeons she meets Roscuro who promises that if Miggery helps kidnap Princess Pea Miggery will become the new princess.
The fourth book brings them all together into an amazing ending. Despereaux sets out with a spool of red thread to not get lost as well as sewing needle to use as a sword. As it is I will not spoil that
