Theodor Geisel Seuss known by his pen name Dr. Seuss. He was an American writer and illustrator. He was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on March 2, 1904 passed in September 24, 1991 from throat cancer, leaving behind no offspring’s. Dr. Seuss first children’s book was rejected 27 times before he was giving the chance to change the face of children’s literature back in 1937. Seuss’s well known books is The Cat in the Hat. This picture book possess a hidden political message. “Seuss said in a 1983 profile that “The Cat in the Hat is a revolt against authority, but it’s ameliorated by the fact that the Cat cleans up everything at the end. It’s revolutionary in that it goes as far as Kernesky and then stops. It doesn’t go quite as far as Lenin.” Seuss has also referred to the killjoy fish as “my version of Cotton Mather,” who was a Puritan advisor for the Salem witch trials.” (Brown) The plot in The Cat in the Hat begins with Sally and her brother bored on a wet rainy day starring outside a window. And a Cat wearing a large hat and a bow tie appears followed by a boom. The cat offered the children tricks for entertainment. The children’s pet fish declines and asked the cat to leave. While trying to entertain the children the cat destroys their home. The fish again warn the cat. The cat suggest another game and pulls out this big red box. And out pops two creatures, Thing one and Thing two and causes double the trouble in destructions. Until, the fish spots the children’s mother and they begin to try and rally up the Things. Sally really doesn’t say much in the story but her emotions shown through her facial expressions are priceless. The second character is Sally’s brother who name was never mention has black hair, red shirt and blue pants. He just a young boy who’s relaxed and just wants a little amusement. Sally’s brother later learns a lesson on responsibility. The next character was the children’s little orange pet fish. He acts as the children’s guardian while their mother is away. His precautious, by the book and his the no man all while trying to keep the house together. The Cat in the Hat character is charming, careless, and fun. Which makes his gimmicks irresistible. The following characters are cat’s two henchmen thugs a.k.a. Thing one and Thing two. Their introduction presentation gives the reader an ideal of the trouble they may cause from the big red box that was locked. These two characters were very restless and energetic they had no sense of responsibly, right and wrong only fun. The last character was absent in most of the scenes but yet present in everyone’s thoughts was the children mother. The children are frighten for their mother to see the house was destroyed, which shows she’s the powerful authority figure being the single
