In the constitution, there are many articles related to slavery. Although in the constitution founding father was not wrote abolished the slavery directly, but some ways were protected slave’s right. We know today’s constitution is changed many times, so some way is different with the original constitution. In the original constitution some ways did address slavery but some aspects not mentioned. “Three Fifth compromises” is a clause about the slavery. This clause made slave counted to three fifth human when the voting. This clause let slaves …show more content…
become the person’s property. The constitution regulated if slaves escaped from his master went to other state, people should make slaves returned to his master. And constitution also allowed trade slaves. But few years after, constitution is changed, people found some problems in the constitution so they back to the constitution fixed it and added some new amendment such as 13th and 14th amendment. These amendments did not address slavery in the original constitution.
United State was a British colony, so British controlled United State until Revolutionary War ended(1783)when the British controlled US the slavery was exist, slavery was began in 1620.
During the 1775-1783 American revolutionary war broke out, in the 1783 Revolutionary War ended, America becomes independent. Then founding father began to write constitution. In the original constitution, didn’t indicate slavery is outlaw. However, in my opinion actually most of founding fathers are opposed the slavery. In the founding fathers, about half even over the half members from south. They are slave-owners they are also have slaves. But they likewise opposed slavery. They know clearly, slavery would become a barrier in the development of the United State; it would hinder the progress of the United States. Because slave in the America was very cheap labor, people relied on them did some basic work. If American wanted to change economic system, government have to abolished slavery, the reason was the number of slave was continue increase, so they would paid more money to managed slaves. Jameson Madison was one of the founding father, he was a master he had 11 slaves but he said” Another of my wishes is to depend as little as possible on the labor of slaves.” (Madison, 1865, I, page 161)And another founding father George Mason said” The augmentation of slaves weakens the states; and such a trade is diabolical in itself, and disgraceful to mankind.” According two person say, we know founding father in essence is anti
slavery. However they cannot write in the constitution directly, because founding father wanted to maintain unity and security of the United State. After the Revolutionary War, North and South had argument about the slavery. In the south had many slave-holding States, slaves was an important part in there, master ordered slaves did many basic work, they think slaves can helped the economic development. And an important reason is in the south had a large number of slaves. In addition, the south wanted slave can have power; one slave can count as one human. So south opposed abolish slavery. North thought if America kept slavery, south would have more power, and in the America power would lose balance. So north opposed slavery they didn’t wanted slave can counted full human. And between the south and north the biggest issue was their economy system was different. In the south was plantation economy, this system needed a lot of stability of workforce, so slaves was important to them. North’s system was Capitalist Industry and Commerce, that was require lot of labor force, if abolished slavery it means north will had lot of free of cheap labor, this why they supported abolished slavery. This argument always existed, founding father to avoided escalation of the situation they have to compromise because American Revolutionary War just finished, the American situation stabilization. They cannot write abolished slavery in the constitution directly, so Founding father established “three compromises” for solved this problem. In this compromise slave is counted as three fifth human when the voting. Constitution and slavery is hot topic, it is always discussed by people. In the American history, people cannot ignore slavery. As the hours pass away, constitution is also continually changed. America spend long time and experiences many things, eventually in the 1865 slavery is abolished.
