To display the absurdness of the accusations, Miller had to create a protagonist with non-conformist views that would defy the insanity raised by the fictitious experiences of witchcraft. At times he may seem like a bad man trying to do a good deed, but, on the contrary, is quite a good man. These four systems all work concurrently within the environments children live in. Using the documentary, Deaf Teens: Hearing World, Bronfenbrenner’s ecological theory can be applied. Christiana, who is a seventeen-year old teen, is living in both the Deaf and hearing world. The people involved in her microsystem are her peers, the friend she has made at Mary Hare’s boarding school, and her immediate family members, her mother and younger sister. Christiana’s mesosystem consists of the connections made between her boarding school teachers and her mother. Her exosystem consists of the larger social system that she doesn’t directly interact with, such as her extended family members and the community health services. Microsystem: In Bronfenbrenner’s framework the innermost environmental layer is the microsystem. The microsystem consists of the child’s most immediate environment (physically, socially and psychologically); this core concept stands as the child’s venue for initially learning about the world (Shaffer, Kipp, Wood, & Willoughby, 2012, p. 63). Home Environment: The home environment for the girl consists of her brother, her stepfather, mother and biological father. The girl lived in an environment where the living conditions were less than ideal and was influenced greatly by her parents who promoted a racist view of minorities. The article provides little information as to the relationship between the girl and her brother as well as her biological father. School Environment: The school environment consists of the girl’s teachers, friends and peers. The girl was discovered to have racist writings and symbols on her skin by the teachers at her school, who then informed authorities. The mesosystem is the second structure within Bronfenbrenner’s social ecological model. Bowes & Hayes (1999) describe the mesosystem as the interrelationships between the indivuduals in the microsystem. There is direct collaboration between the individual and their relationships between their microsystem, their behaviors, expectations and values may differ with different experiences (Bowes, Grace & Hayes 2012). Regarding my life transition, the relationships between home and school within the microsystem became stressful, causing a negative impact on myself. Though when looking at figure 2, it is evident that after the stressors had ceased, a strong positive relationship occurred. This example highlights how a negative relationship between two aspects of the microsystem can dramatically change and become a powerful mesosytem agents to the individual effecting their development.
