Homeless people are not all your typical idea of a homeless person, living on the street. Homeless people can be couchsurfers, live in cars, in shelters and in any situation where they do not have a permanent residence. Of those people over 142,000 are children and more than 62,000 are veterans. While not all of these people are considered chronically homeless, 15% of the people are. What is worse is that 8% of the homeless population are veterans, people who fought for our country but our country refuses to fight for them. Imagine spending years and years of your life in war and when you get back, all the country you spent so much time fighting for could only offer you the streets. You can do small things like working at a food bank, homeless shelter, or just donating your spare clothes. Those may sound like very small deeds but they can help in a big way. Helping at a food bank and homeless shelter could help some people get back on their feet and motivate them to go find work. Donating clothes could save someone from a dire winter or a harsh summer and also give them something nice to wear to a job interview. There are also ways that the government and large organizations are trying to help out like focusing on rehousing. This approach makes getting the homeless into permanent residents first and then helping them to get jobs and other necessities. Another way people are trying to help is by building tiny homes for the homeless. This route is very inexpensive and it doesn't take long to build a tiny home village.
