We are all aware that smoking cigarettes is highly correlated towards lung cancer and is more than likely the cause most of the time. Also, tobacco itself is responsible for 90% of cases of lung cancer. What also falls under the use of tobacco and can cause lung cancer are pipe and cigar smoking, second hand smoking, asbestos fibers that you breathe in, radon gas and lastly the air pollution. Those who smoke about a pack of cigarettes a day raise their chances of lung cancer 25 times higher than a non-smoker and those who smoke pipes or cigars are about 5 times…

    B. When you think of HPV don’t think of herpes or HIV. These cause different symptoms and health problems. HPV is usually clear of the body in two years. Signs and symptoms of this are genital warts in both the male and female and very rarely warts in the throat. Other HPV types can cause cervical cancer. These types can also cause other, less serious cancers, including cancers of the vulva, vagina, penis, anus, and head and neck (tongue, tonsils and throat).…

In August 2011, my grandmother died of esophageal cancer. Cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the body, and cells divide rapidly. Cancer starts as a tumor located in a specific part of the body. A tumor is an abnormal growth of body tissue. There are two types of tumors; benign and malignant. A benign tumor is a tumor that is not cancerous, so it has not yet spread to other parts of the body, but is localized in one area. They grow slowly and until they become a malignant tumor, they are not very harmful. A malignant tumor is one that is cancerous, where the cancer cells start traveling to other parts of the body. Cancer cells invade and damage tissues and organs, and can enter the bloodstream. Proto-oncogenes, a gene in normal cells, both promote and inhibit cell division at the same time. In cancer cells both of these functions are stopped, and cells stop entering G0, the period of the cell cycle where a cell rests and completes basic functions, instead of dividing. Because of this, cells start dividing rapidly. These rapidly dividing cells start off located in a specific location of the body, and as they divide, create a lump, or a tumor. This is known as the benign stage. As the tumor grows, overtime the tumor becomes attached to blood vessels, and travels throughout the rest of the body. Once this happens, the tumor becomes malignant, and is very hard to cure.…

Thyroid caner is a disease in which the cells of the thyroid gland become abnormal, grow uncontrollably and form a mass of cells called a tumor. Some tumors grow and enlarge only at the site where they began. These types of tumors are referred to as benign tumors. Other tumors not only enlarge locally, but they also have the potential to invade and destroy the normal tissues around them and to spread to other regions of the body. These types of tumors are called malignant tumors or cancer.() Malignant tumors of the thyroid gland tend to develop gradually and remain localized. The tumors usually appear as nodules or lumps of tissue growing on or inside the gland itself. Almost 95% of these lumps or nodules are non-cancerous (benign), and are usually caused by thyroid conditions such as goiters (Shin 422). The American Cancer Society estimates that there will be about 23,600 new cases of thyroid cancer in the U.S. in 2004 (Thackery 1057). Women are three times more likely to develop thyroid cancer than men. Although the disease also affects younger people, most people who develop…

My article was about how oral sex can cause throat cancer. Sometimes people think throat cancer could have came from alcohol or cigarettes but no one ever considers it coming from oral sex. Recent studies have shown that the throat infections have been found in more females than males. If you only have one sustaining partner though you do not need to worry for you are already sharing all possible diseases with each other as it is. However *shockingly* having oral 6 with sex or more partners is dangerous and raises the risk. Still smoking is by far the most important factor in throat cancer and then heavy alcohol is the next. To those who do both have the highest risk. The virus that causes throat cancer comes in many different forms of the HPV infections. In conclusion when it comes to oral sex, be careful. There is not a single test to confirm the diagnosis of cancer; it requires series of different test to confirm the diagnosis. It usually begins with obtaining detailed history and conducting physical examination. The patient symptoms differ depending on the type and extent of the disease. Localized symptoms of cancer relate to the primary site of the disease. The seven warning signs of cancer includes change in bowel or bladder habits, a sore that does not heal, unusual bleeding or discharge, thickening or lump in an area of the body, indigestion or difficulty in swallowing, obvious change in wart or mole, and nagging cough or hoarseness…

Cervical cancer is the second common cancer in women. Cervical cancer is a sexually transmitted disease caused by human papillovirus , or also known as HPV. Some people may not experience any cervical cancer symptoms. There are several risk factors that may increase the risk such as having multiple partners. Having sex at an early age may also increase the risk of HPV. Sexual transmitted diseases such as Chlamydia, gonorrhea, and cigarette smoking can also cause cervical cancer. There are treatments available if detected at earlier stages. Two types of screening for cervical cancer are pap test and HPV DNA test. Vaccines can protect against HPV virus that cause the cervical cancer. Cancer of the Cervix is a very invasive cancer that attacks a woman's reproductive system. The cervical canal is a passageway where blood flows from the uterus through the canal into the vagina during a women's menstrual period. During pregnancy, the cervix is tightly closed to help keep the baby inside the uterus. Throughout childbirth, the cervix dilates to allow the baby pass through the vagina (Cancer of the Cervix). The most common form of cancer of the cervix is squamous cell carcinoma and develops from the flat cells, which cover the outer surface of the cervix at the top of the vagina. Another frequent type is adenocarcinoma and expands itself through the glandular cells, which line the cervical canal (Cancer Backup). As a result, cervical cancer is now the second leading death rate among women. Some types of HPV are strongly associated with a high risk of developing cervical cancer. Scientists believe that HPV initiates a process that leads, over time, to the development of cervical cancer; and that other factors, such as cigarette smoking, poor nutrition and infection with the sexually transmitted disease Chlamydia, stimulate and lay the groundwork for cervical cancer.…
