Thyroid Storm Research Paper

Also called thyroid storm is very rare but very severe form of thyrotoxic state and people may die within 48 hours without treatment. Mostly common with patients who are undiagnosed or partially treated with Graves’ disease. It occurs with excessive stress, such as infection, pulmonary and cardiovascular disorders, trauma, seizures, emotional stress, dialysis, and plasmapheresis. Clinical manifestations include tachycardia, heart failure, shock, hyperthermia up to 105 degrees, restlessness, seizure, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, delirium and coma. Emergency treatment should be focused to prevent death. Proper medication to reduce thyroid hormone level, intravenous fluid challenge, management of stressor and reduction of fever needs to be included
