How to Tie Dye
I. Introduction A. The objective of this presentation is to teach and explain how to tie dye a shirt. B. Each student will be leaving class today with the knowledge of how to tie-dye. The attention grabbers are the colorful tie dyed shirts.
II. Step-by-Step Plan A. The first step is to purchase a shirt and kit. B. The second step is to make a soda ash mixture, with warm water, that should be included in the kit. C. Let the shirt soak in the mixture for 20 minutes. D. Remove the shirt, and wring out the excess mixture out. E. Twist the shirt into a spiral. F. Add 3 rubber bands onto the shirt to separate it into different sections. G. Empty the packets of dye into each bottle, and then shake each bottle to mix the dye up. H. Color the shirt as desired; add one color in each section. I. Let the shirt sit for 12 hours in a plastic bag. J. Take the rubber bands off the shirt. K. Rinse out the excess dye in the shirt. L. Wash the shirt in the washing machine, by itself, using cold water and ¼ of the laundry cup detergent. M. Finally, dry the shirt in the dryer.
III. Tie Dye Shirts A. The visual components of this “how to” speech are a power point, 9 tie-dyed shirts, and a tie-dyed backpack. Students will be able to see various techniques of tie dying, and how tie dying can be applied to more than one object. For example, a student could not only tie dye a shirt, but also a backpack. B. I have made all of my tie-dyes, including my tie-dye backpack. I have purchased all my shirts as regular shirts, and I have cut them to a desired
