a. The Tlingit’s would carve big pieces of wood and make faces of animals on them. These are totem poles. The Tlingit’s believed they would protect their people and families. They would also use a weaving technique called the Chilkat weaving technique. They would use it to weave things like blankets and clothes using mountain-sheep wool and mountain goat hair. They would use the blankets and clothes for rituals and ceremonies “Tlingit Tribe”. They were also taught to respect everything that existed and if they didn’t they would be punished by loss of food. Food
a. The Tlingit’s were fishermen and hunters. They hunted mountain-goats and sheep, fox, deer, beaver, mink, bear, moose, and porcupines. They also hunted for sea animals like seal, sea otters, and whales. They fished for salmon, halibut, candlefish, herring, and shellfish. They also went and gathered berries and greens. “Tlingit Tribe”
VII. Notable Tlingit People
a. I couldn’t really find any people that were important expect for Chief Katlia of Stika. When the first Russian settlers came, the Tlingit’s were trading with the Haida lands. The Russians took advantage of the land and trade routes so Chief Katlia of Stika made the post to defect and it worked as I said earlier.
