Nowadays is getting more and more important to stay fit and healthy. There are a lot of negotiations about how to prevent junk food market. One of many possible solutions could be to impose higher taxes on soft drinks and junk food, what could encourage healthy eating. Although, from first sight, it can look like a good solution, but in this essay I am going to prove, that high taxes is not the best way, event, in my opinion, junk food must be replaced by healthy and home-made food.
Firs of all, in many countries the high cost of eating healthy food is often just an excuse for being overweight, especially by people who have lower incomes. Many people would say that a bag of chips costs less than a head of broccoli, and that it costs less to eat at McDonald's than to cook a meal at home. Moreover, these people may think, if healthy food would be just more readily available and more affordable, then it would be more reasonable to expect people to eat right and keep the healthy weights that would reduce risk of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and heart disease. But a very quick look at prices at popular fast food restaurants denies this excuse. According to some researches, which were made in USA, it is already proved, that a family of four can eat breakfast at McDonald's for 16 dollars, or about 20 dollars if the adults order extra breakfast sandwiches. That same family of four can each enjoy a bowl of cereal, milk, and fruit, plus coffee and juice for about 7 dollars at home. Furthermore, a family of four can have burgers, fries, and soft drinks for lunch at Burger King for about 28 dollars. That same family could have chicken, rice, a steamed vegetable and a pudding for desert at home for 9 dollars.
