Authors often have a very good reason for choosing a particular personality for their story’s narrator. Scout was a vital character in the novel, “To Kill a Mockingbird.” Her impartial outlook on life and people was highly voluntary in order to produce the theme and message that Harper Lee was sending to her readers. Many of the events in the story would not have happened or would have occurred very differently if the novel was told through the eyes of an adult narrator. Even though Scout’s narration is often faulty or inaccurate, her innocence often allows readers to see the events and characters in the novel more clearly.…

Harper Lee’s novel To Kill a Mockingbird has been an enormous success since its publication in 1960. Besides becoming a Literary Guild Selection Choice and a Book Society Choice it also won the Pulitzer Prize in 1961 (Johnson 8). By 1982 over 15,000,000 copies of the book were sold. In a survey of lifetime reading habits taken in 1991 To Kill a Mockingbird was cited as making the biggest difference in a person’s life, second only to the bible. Since its publication the book has made a major impact on people and the culture as a whole (13-14). The similarity of Harper Lee’s life and the Scottsboro Trial to the events in the book are part of the reason the book has been so successful. Along with this is her use of symbolism which is used throughout the story to convey problems of racism in the south during the early twentieth century (Smykowski 1).…

According to Julia Having good judgment and making good decisions, it turns out, depends largely about which mindset you’re in. I truly believed with what Julia says about our biases can sometimes lead us to amend the facts. I think that the 'Soldier' and the 'Scout' are well defined regarding our mindsets. Moreover, I agree with her that it is an improvement for individuals as well as for the society to change our way of acting by learning to be more aware of our emotions and our desires. The more individuals change their Mindsets to a Scout's one, the more justice and peace would be shown in their behavior and possibly through society. In addition, I am convinced that a more positive way of thinking makes everyone's life much more worth…
