Race, That was something in the past and it’s not relevant to 2016 right? That’s where people are wrong, race is still around but it’s not as bad as it used to be. Innocence is something we all have and race can change people’s innocence very quickly. The book, To Kill A MockingBird is a novel none of us will ever forget. It’s about two kids Scout and Jem finch who are growing up and start to learn that the small town they thought they once knew is different than they thought, When Atticus their father a lawyer agrees to take a case about defending a black man named Tom Robinson who is accused of raping a white woman, Scout and Jem quickly learn about how racist this small town can truly be. Scout gets confused and doesn't understand what she means by that. Aunt Alexandra explains that it’s because he’s trash, Scout gets mad and Jem tries to explain it in a different way but Scout still thinks that everyone is the same, in which Jem replies with “That’s what I thought too, when I was your age. If there’s just one kind of folks, why can’t they get along with each other? If they’re all alike, why do they go out of their way to despise each other? Scout, I think I’m beginning to understand why Boo Radley's stayed shut up in his house all this time.. it’s because he wants to stay”. (Lee 259). When you're as young as Scout is, you think everyone is the same. But as you get older, you start to realize that the smallest things affect who you are as a person. That's why Boo Radley doesn’t want to come out of his house is because he wants to be away from the constant judgement and the hatred that happens in the small town of MayComb. Scout is losing her innocence by realizing that not everyone is the same and small things like color and family background can make them different and not worth it, even though they should be treated
