To Kill a Mockingbird
To Kill a Mockingbird
To kill a mocking bird is a novel written by Harper Lee and published in 1960. It was immediately successful, and has become a classic of modern literature. The plot is loosely on Harper Lee’s observations of her family and neighbours, as well as on an event that occurred near her hometown in 1936, when she was 10 years old.
The story is narrated by a young girl named Jean Louise Finch, who is always called by her nickname, Scout. Scout starts to explain the circumstances that led to the broken arm that her older brother, Jem, sustained many years earlier; she begins by recounting her family history. The first of her ancestors to come to America was a fur-trader and apothecary named Simon Finch, who fled England to escape religious persecution.
