about the general concept America, they have different views on what America is really like. All of these great authors have many ideas and opinions about America.
These three authors, all spoke up the positive and negative things in America. America is a great place full of job opportunities for everybody. These authors talk about the working classes in America. For example, in Walt Whitman’s poem “I Hear America Singing” he says “The day what belongs to the day -At night, the party of young fellows, robust, friendly, Singing, with open mouths, their strong melodious songs”.This line of the poem shows what he talks about in the poem. Although these authors all speak about America positively they also have many different viewpoints, and represent a different community. The author Walt Whitman wrote about the wonders of America. He wrote about the great job opportunities and how happy people are doing them. He views America as a great and beautiful place. Whitman represents the white Americans. For example, in his poem “I Hear America Singing” it says “Each singing what belongs to her and no one else;”. This line shows that everyone in America goes on about their day happy to work. Walt Whitman is known in literature for his political poetry during the civil war. In contrast, of Angela de Hoyos, he believes America represents
everyone. The author Angela de Hoyos does not agree with Whitman. Angela believes that America does not represent the Hispanic community and she disagrees with Whitman that America has equal opportunities for everybody. She speaks about the Hispanics and natives with no voice, the author herself is native and Mexican. She connects with the Latino community by letting them know they are not alone. For example, in the poem “To Walt Whitman” she writes to him that she clearly disagrees with his ideals. In the poem, it says “So you can spill out a song of the open road big enough for my people -my Native Amerindian race that I can’t seem to find in your poems”. This line shows how she feels the native community isn’t being represented in America. Angela is famous for talking about the understanding all people, for example, females and Hispanics. On the contrary of Whitman she does not focus on one social group. The author Langston Hughes also has his views on America. He does not believe America is fair, he believes African Americans are treated unfairly. He feels they are downgraded and looked down upon in society. For example in his poem “I, Too, SIng America” he speaks about being in the bottom of society, the feeling of a minority. In the poem, it says “I am the darker brother, They send me to eat in the kitchen when company comes. Nobody’ll dare say to me, “Eat in the Kitchen,” Then”. This shows how he believes African Americans are looked down upon. Langston Hughes is known for his literary jazz and for being a social activist. All three of these actors influenced American literature. They all had different perspectives about how America is. Their different races and cultures help reader get an inside of what is it like in America for a certain group. They have inspired many with their great works.
