To start with, the Renaissance influenced art and individualism. “The [clearest] evidence of the break with medieval culture comes from the visual arts” (doc A). [“A movement called humanism developed, which praised the beauty and intelligence of the individual” (Background Essay)] Doc A clarifies the beauty of humanism through art. Leonardo da Vinci’s painting expresses his interest of art by emphasizing the importance of humanism. Duccio’s painting which is less artistic than Da Vinci’s, shows mother Mary with baby Jesus in her hands. The majority of literature at the time focused on Jesus Christ and the sins of mankind. [“Ye [man] think sin in the beginning full sweet, which in the end causeth thy soul to weep.” (Doc B)] Doc B carried a message saying a man should embrace life but, wisely. According to Doc C, during the Renaissance, a man’s view of the world changed based off education.
Then Doc D is mainly about an increase over the years of getting a better explanation of the human body. In Doc C Ptolemy developed a theory of the universe that is earth-centered and Copernicus relying on observations and mathematics. Ptolemy thought that the solar system revolved around the sun. From circa 1500, man’s view of the world was based off two different theories of the universe. Doc D shows how each sign of the zodiac governed a certain part of the human body, a belief in the Middle Ages. It also stated that Andreas Vesalius dissected human corpses to in order to better explain the human body. Doc D discusses a man’s view changed about what the parts of a human body
represents. In closing, the renaissance changed man’s view of the world in different ways. Doc A represents the individualism of humans and art. Doc B informs about how a man’s aftermath for the afterlife depends on how he lives his life. Also Doc C and D are written beliefs and theories about the human body and the universe.
