it gives you a little bit of story about the battle and then you go fight but how many of these battles are actual true let us explore 1 of these wars and their background.
The first battle we will see will be the Battle of Lake Trasimene. The Battle of Lake
Trasimene was fought about June 21, 217 BC. This battle was a big battle in the Second Punic
War. It was the war against the Carthage. The Roman Republic was being led by Gaius Flaminius and the Carthage by Hannibal. Flaminius had been elected to replace Publius Cornelius Scipio and take control of his army. Flaminius had been sent to defend a city near Rome. Julius and his men lost that day greatly having a loss of about 15,000 and Hannibal only having
2,500. The game Rome: Total War depiction of the war is fairly right. They don’t give you the so much about the back ground of the battle but they do mention that Hannibal and Flaminius as being the leader of this army. The number of men of each army has been reduced as well. They don’t explain the tactical strategies of Hannibal or Flaminius because the game is won from either side, depending who you choose to play as, so there is no showing who wins in the end.
The game is also of by one year of the actual battle. So it is just an overview of the battle and is not in total detail. All of the battles in the historical campaign are just like this they show and overview of the battle and the important people in the battle but don’t really show in detail about why and how the battle took places. Now let’s look at how they depicted the roman soldiers. (Arnason, 2010) (wikia)
Let us start with the lowest in the game they are called peasants they are soldiers with no special abilities and we used when others died. In the Roman army however they are called adscripticius. The armor is about the same. Both have a helmet, a breast plate and a sword. The next are velites. They are the form the lighter part of the army and could be also called skirmishers in the game. They are the poorest of the fourth part of the Republican legion. They are mostly used to kill the African elephants. This part of the army tends to be true as they did since they were poor did not have money to buy armor and only had a javelin, helmet,
and shield. The clothing is the same too as most of these men wore animal skins on their heads to differ them form the Hastaii. Now the Hastati’s where the next level up from the Velites. In the game they are given a bigger shield, a sword, and two pila, small version of a javelin. Clothing for the Hastaii is the same having a feather on their helmets, and having an x on their shields.

The principes where the where again the level higher than the Hastati. They had carried a pila and sword they also. They were essentially the Hastati just with more training and more armor.
Their depiction in the game is accurate. These are just a few of the many soldiers in the game and compared with real life are pretty accurate. But what also makes a historical game accurate is its setting and structure of the environment. (HeavenGames, 2014) (Tribune sand triumphs,

In the game the setting is supposed to be in the early years of the Roman Empire. Rome was known for its advancements in architecture. In the game the depiction of many important buildings can be seen. We will explore part of the religious aspects of the architecture. The
Romans had temples to many gods. They had temples to the god of Apollo, Jupiter, Venus and
Roma, Saturn, Janus, Arthemis, Juno Moneta, Neptune, Vesta, Augustus and Livia. In the game there are temples to Jupiter, Juno, Neptune, and Saturn. Now the structures of these temples were cylinder shaped and mostly always had pillars. The game, not really adding detail to tell the difference in the temple, does a good job at how a general temple looks like. Besides being religious the Romans where really found of entertainment. The where really into theatrical entertainment. They would create amphitheaters. It was built in the specific way that when people would talk the sound would be amplified. This was due to the circular cone structure so that sounds would bounce of the walls making it seem like the sound is louder. In the game they had the same type of structure. It had the cone shape and they seats are also set in the movie theater way. The romans also had a thing for being clean. They would build a system of health services that helped keep the city clean. One of the buildings was public baths. The baths where mostly for the men though the women also had hot rooms where they could get clean.

The baths would have an entrance for both women and men. There was a big bath then there game you only get to see the main swimming room but the depiction of the pool is pretty accurate. The outer layer of the pool was lined with pillars. The outside had the structure on a government building. Another thing that the romans built was aqueducts. The romans built there to bring water from other places in the city. It would also collect rain water that they can use. They were made with like a long thin bridge having arches along the way so that it could pass in the city. The game depicts them in the same way. There are many more building but overall they get the general idea of how they look since the game does not allow you to look inside the buildings because there is no need to. The game Rome: Total Rome is a great historical game. We have explored some its accurate aspects of the game and compared them to real Rome and have seen that it is a pretty good accurate portal, even though they don’t get into detail with some of the structural features. They do get the general idea of how they should look. Rome was a great civilization and Rome: Total war does a great job at giving the player the feeling of being in ancient Rome.
