Introduction
The aim of this assignment is to demonstrate the differences between developed and developing countries in terms of social, economic and political factors and to understand why tourism is chosen as an option to generate economic wealth and the issues likely to affect the popularity of Tourist destinations. To show all this, I have chosen different types of destinations such as: coastal areas, tourist towns and cities, business and conference destinations, countryside areas, heritage and cultural destinations and purpose built.
Tourism is a large and a growing industry, and during the time achieved many definitions. One of the tourism definitions is given by The Tourism Society in Cardiff which says that: “Tourism is the temporary short- term movement of the people to destinations outside the places where they normally live and work and their activities during their stay at these destinations.” (The Tourism Society in Cardiff cited in Cruz 2006: p.2).
