A Major Decision

“It’s alright Victoria just breathe! You got this baby! Breathe take a deep breath. Calm down Victoria!” says Ruby. The doctor comes into the room and says, “You’re doing a good job, but at this moment she has stopped coming so we need to get you prepared to do an emergency C-section and bring this beautiful baby girl into this world. Now you can only take one family member back there with you. I will leave that choice up to you.” The family begins to look around the room and wonder who will be the one to go back with her on this special delivery. It’s narrowed down to two and it was either the Father of the child or the Mother of the Mother of the child. Now this brings me back to the day I had a major decision to make on rather I wanted to actually keep my child or have an abortion. Ah yes. I can remember this day as if it was yesterday. I was sitting at the Hope Center and the nurse had just come back into the room with prenatal pills and a blanket to let me know that I was expecting. I bust out in tears and there was nothing else I could think to do. At this time, my sister who is a year younger than me was also pregnant, my oldest sister was pregnant, my brother girlfriend was pregnant, and my daughter’s father already had one child and was not ready for another one, and I was completely not ready for a child period! As I talked to the father of the child, the option that we were thinking was abortion. It seemed to be the best option for the both of us and we were hoping that our parents and loved ones would understand our decision.
I called my mother on the phone and told her the news and before I could even tell her what I had decided to do, she told me that the option of abortion was not happening and against the word of God, so it was not to happen. I cried even more and decided that rather we wanted this child or not, I had to carry my baby for nine months and give birth. I was scared of the reaction of the father and what he thought about my decision. He really didn’t want to accept the decision but as a man, he stepped up and begins to think about it and accepted in anyways. As months go by, we find out that we were not having what we expected, but we were getting a baby girl. As we got ready for our baby girl, I was working and time was getting close to her due date. On the last doctor’s visit to check up on the baby, my doctor said that it might be a possibility that I could be overdue. It didn’t happen and on the 18th of January the labor pains begin and I went into surgery at 9:27 pm and at 9:37pm came out a beautiful, healthy baby girl.

On December 28, 2014; Rachel Melacon and Allen Coats gave birth to Olivia Coats. Unfortunately the doctor, who delivered her baby girl, by using forceps against the young couple’s wishes, caused unfixable injuries to the newborn. The couple puts blame for the death of their five-day old baby girl, Olivia Coats. However even though she requested to have a C- section, due to the size of the baby, Dr. George T. Backardjiev shut the idea down. Dr. Backardjiev told Rachel that it would leave a scar afterwards. He ended up using the forceps to deliver her baby girl. Dr. Backardjiev struggled with the forceps, “he even put his foot on the bed” to try and pull the baby out. “Dr. Backardjiev was turning and twisting, and she would never come out, he put the forceps one way and the other; when he touched the top and the side of the skull, we heard a pop, like clay cracking in pottery and heard her skull crush.” The medical staff told the couple their baby was alive; then Olivia was quickly transferred to “Children’s Memorial Harmann Hospital” in Houston Texas, it was at that hospital that they were informed that their daughter had suffered several fractures to her skull and spine; then on January 2nd Olivia Coats died. Angie coats told ABC News “we’re not mad at the hospital, this not their fault. It is one man’s fault, we only want justice for Olivia; we want the person responsible, which is the doctor. We don’t want the hospital being shunned.” The parents plan to sue Dr. Backardjiev for the death of their baby girl. The hospital administration and independent medical staff leadership are all committed in taking all necessary actions in understanding why this happened. The Houston Chronicle reports that the parents of Olivia Coats started a campaign to ban the use of forceps during delivery called “The Olivia Law.” The couple also started a fundraiser on Go Fund Me to raise awareness about the use of forceps explaining how damaging they can be, so far the…

I then realized the look on the doctor’s face and that in it spoke the words that were unspoken. She started explaining to us that the mother was only 22 ½ weeks along and that she was going into premature labor. We had a decision to make -we could either let her naturally go into labor with the baby being breech (this will cause a head catch) which lessens the chance of survival or do an emergency C- section. For the first time in my life I had no way of fixing this. This was out of my hands and into the hands of God. I felt alone, desperate and frightened. I just kept thinking this wasn’t supposed to happen to me. I’m a good person! I go to church; I help people in need, and I greet people with a smile to brighten their day. So the question kept popping in mind why did this happen to me?…

The being pregnant part was actually really awesome. I was hungry all the time and got to eat pretty much anything and everything to my hearts content. I was always sleepy but best of all never did I get nauseous, which oh my gosh I was so happy for! You get to go to the doctor ALOT and the list of the things you can do is a short story compared to the novel that is the list of things you cant do. The very first feelings you feel of the baby moving feels like you have butterflies in your stomach and getting to hear the heart beat, now that is one of the best sounds in the world. I read What to Expect When You're Expecting like it was the bible. It tells you everything about the baby, their progress, what they look like at each stage and I was obsessed with it. At about five months that's when you get to find out the sex. That was the day I couldn't wait for. I wanted a girl so bad! I tried hard not to get my hopes up. Don't get me wrong I would love my child either way, but ever since that first day, that second line I couldn't stop thinking the word girl, girl, GIRL! I knew it, even though I told myself I didn't. My heart sank at first when the ultra sound nurse said “Do you see these three dots?” I instantly thought “okay cool its a boy, good thing I still have time to pick out a name” but as the nurse went on she said “congratulations your having a girl.” My mom who was with me just exploded into pure excitement, she had her three grandsons now the first granddaughter, and me, well I felt like I won the lottery. Picking out a name was also pretty easy seeing as how I already picked it out when I was 15, Riley, after my grandfather. I never got to meet him but I've always heard what an amazing person he was and I was in love with his name, but I had to make it its own so I decided to spell it Rylee. After that its pretty much 4 long fat months of you putting baby furniture together, buying clothes,…

I recently saw a video of a 20-year-old woman describing her abortion experience. At 15, she had a boyfriend and completely supported woman’s rights to decide the fate of her child. All of that changed after she discovered she was pregnant. Her boyfriend said that he would back out unless she got rid of it. She was also pressured with the fact that she had no money and hadn't finished high school yet. In closing of the video, she lives with the guilt of her decision and is now totally pro-life.…

It was almost 5am on July 17, 1996, when I was rushed to the hospital. I was balled up in the back seat of my mother in laws car, biting down on a towel because the pain was so unbearable. I heard him say “it’s ok baby… ” just as another jolt of pain came. As his voice faded I could feel him rubbing my back, and I tried my best to listen to his voice and forget the pain. It was impossible though, the baby was coming and there was no turning back now.…

My life as a teenager would soon be coming to an end and my life as mommy would be coming up faster then expected. It all started June 10th 2012, my family and I had just finished eating our dinner celebrating my achievement of getting my GED. I had received cards, gifts, and even some money from my family members for finally receiving this GED after being out of school for my senior year. Everybody was so happy for me even my dad, which was not a very common emotion for him to express towards me. Unfortunately their happiness would soon be long gone. For it was the night before this that I had five different tests all of which said the same thing in different ways, I was pregnant. I was not ready for this kind of responsibility. I was not ready physically, emotionally, and financially to take care of even myself yet now I had to find a way to provide all of those things for a child. I was only seventeen, turning eighteen in July; I was still a child myself. To many people I would be viewed as a delinquent because of getting pregnant. On the other hand, others might have seen this coming since my mom also had me at a young age. Many also believe all teens who get pregnant will fail. Although these beliefs and views from others were in my head at the time, I knew I needed to tell my family I was pregnant, find out how far along I was, and make a life changing decision.…

No crying, not even once but was not going around acting like it was the best thing, either. Feeling like every one may ridicule myself, if people knew about the pregnancy, so mainly kept it to thyself. Although it did not take every one long to notice, living in a small town, rumors spread fast. If someone knows a secret, then those people believes it is okay to tell everyone, so it takes a week for the entire town to discover something that is not really THAT big of a deal and is not his or hers business to share. If it would have been until the pregnancy started taking its toll, no one would have known until six or seven months along! The older women who saw me in public always stared at myself in a negative way many times. The older women would say phrases such as, "Kids are going around having kids." That would never get to myself, knowing that it does not matter what others think. None of the older women would have thought to themselves that just maybe, myself being pregnant at that age, is not the best thing to do or have happen. The older women never once thought maybe the pregnant teenagers know that they had made a mistake. Some teenagers need help by others and make sure they know that it is not something that anyone should want. When pregnant there are many have a large amount of sacrifices to make. For example, say that some teens may be cheerleaders or in any…

    Track Is A Sport

Nobody is quintessential and we all need help with something in life, whether it involves a project for school, homework, a video or board game, on the other hand, even an activity or sport. For example, track is a sport which merely only a handful of people run. So obviously not everyone who joins will know how to do every event or any certain event they want to pursue. Not to mention, not everyone can start out of blocks correctly, yet not everyone is supposed to. All events have a certain craftsmanship one has to learn, especially if you are in field events: long jump, triple jump, high jump, discus, or shot put. When this occurs, the coaches, as well as, the other children who have experience on the track and the field helps out. Coming to an original sport that is exceptionally complex with scads of rules and techniques can be arduous to learn and that is when helpers come out their way to lend a hand.…
