A crucial skill I take seriously is knowing all fifty states. This skill can give someone the title “a real American.” Wearing red, white, and blue on the fourth is easy and minimal. Knowing every state and being able to find it on a map is more important. I feel people become so fascinated with the social culture of being an American that they forget what it actually counts.…

First I chose hard work as being a value that is important to Americans. We as Americans expect our fellow countrymen to work hard to achieve financial success and material comfort. Next I picked Freedom as an important value to the American culture. Our country was founded on the basis of freedom. The American Revolution began our long term love of our freedoms. Finally I chose equality as my third value. It is impossible to understand Americans without being aware of the central role that the value of equality plays in their lives. Equality has played another significant role in US history.…

Because of our constitution, not only do we have the right to express our own individual beliefs with freedom of speech, but we are also able to practice our own religions, bear arms, and enforce the press, letting us receive news about the government itself. I think if I had to choose one typical American it would have to be the ‘typical’ ideal American. I do not think that in today’s society that there is a ‘typical’ American. So if I was going to pick a famous person it would have to one from history, Abe Lincoln, for example. He stood for freedom, equality, and upholding the values of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; the values our country was founded on. I think that when he was alive he embodied the characteristics of a typical American because he worked hard to provide for his family and fought hard to stand up for what he believed was right for our country. I consider these to be all wonderful characteristics to have but when applied to the ‘typical’ American it does seem to be stereotypical or even a little unfair. It is hard in this day and age to embody all of those things that he did. America is a country made up of so many different people with different backgrounds and cultures that we are truly a melting-pot. I think it is time that we redefine the ‘typical’ American to no definition at all. Everyone who is American is ‘typical’, it is what makes this country so great.…

To be an American to me means that we are free and are so fortunate to even have many of things that we actually have. We are fortunate to have a government where they look out for every one of us, and try to do what is in the best interest of our country. Being an American is awesome because we have a society that is willing to help people who are not as fortunate as some of the others. America is willing to help us and let us make our own choices, choose members of our own government that is going to protect us, and coming together with other citizens to help out others and our country.…

To be American it means much more than just Sunday Night Football and relishing fast food. It means that one has certain rights, rights one cannot be deprived of. Being American means one has the right to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. One has the right to practice their religion no matter what it is. This allows Americans to live a life without being forced to conform to a single religion. That is part of the reason that each American has a diverse background. Another privilege that Americans have is the right to an education. People in other countries are not given an education causing them to be illiterate. This right allows one to prosper in life when one becomes older. Liberty is the state or condition of people who are able…
