Trans Pacific Partnership:
The trans pacific partnership (TPP) was initiated by United states which was signed between 12 different nations in order to initiate free trade and corporate rights deal between the undersigned nations. The 12 nations which were included in the trans pacific partnership agreement was Australia, Canada, Japan, Chile, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, Brunei, Vietnam, Thailand, Phillipines, and South Korea.
There are currently 26 different chapters which are being discussed and negotiated under the agreement of TPP, but only 2 out of 26 are concerned with ongoing trade agreements between them. All remaining 24 chapters concerns with different issues such as government regulations, corporate activities, issues related to pharmaceutical partners and copyrights, governing regulations for internet, distributing and sharing personal information across different countries, banking and tax regulations between the countries undersigned, and how and when a company or investor should be …show more content…
compensated or recompense when environmental constraints or public health policy restrict with the profit gaining process.
“The majority of Congress is being kept in the dark as to the substance of the TPP negotiations, while representatives of US corporations like Halliburton, Chevron, and the Motion Picture Association of America are being consulted and made privy to the details of the agreement.” (wyden, 2013)
Another important reason for TPP agreement is to use Transpacific partnership as a geopolitical weapon by the US Government to break down the China’s strong existence in Asia and the pacific region. The transpacific Partnership agreement was the best alternative to successfully execute and develop a new free-trade model. Transpacific Partnership is being resisted in all the countries and their people as it proved to be a main cause for corporate globalization which eventually created good corporate culture, sustainable jobs and reduce poverty globally.
The TPP will also move U.S. government contracting jobs to foreign companies by banning buy-American procurement policies. The ability of U.S. firms to bid on government contracts in the other participating countries will not begin to balance this out. (Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP): The Terrible Plutocratic Plan, 2013)
Canada’s entry into the TPP agreement got the interest of stakeholders which offered them an opportunity for global exposure under the agreement of TPP. This provided an opportunity for all the representatives from both the backgrounds i.e. industry and non- industry to officially register and participate in the global business.
“The Government of Canada launched a comprehensive consultation process on December 31, 2011, involving the Canadian public, provinces and territories, businesses and non-governmental organizations, seeking advice and views on priorities, objectives and concerns with respect to the TPP to help Canada outline the parameters of this initiative. This process indicated broad support for Canada’s entry into the negotiations.” (Trans-Pacific Partnership Free Trade Agreement Negotiations, 2013)
It would provide an opportunity for Canadian industries and corporations in order to have business with other 11 countries under the agreement of TPP. It will ensure that all the products and services offered are registered under copyrights and labeling rights. So that every product and service offered in the international market will have its distinct identity and marketed as one separate product. It will also register all the intellectual property available on the internet or in any other form of media. This will enable to upload and exchange digital information on the internet and share it with others. This will ensure that all the files which are registered under copyright issues and intellectual property can be safely and securely shared on internet media through different sources and links. This will allow Canadian companies to avoid copyright theft or plagiarism for the information which has been shared on the internet. Under this agreement no individual can store the information for free or without any authorization as it will be stated as a criminal offense and will be subject to penalty.
The TPP quickly became the best hope for a modern, multinational free-trade agreement, one that could eventually include the powers of the Asia-Pacific, says John Manley, president of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives.
(Canada joins TPP free trade talks, 2012)
To conclude, Transpacific Partnership will encourage Canadian corporations to freely exchange digital information through different media between different countries which will eventually help the corporations to protect the information exchanged in a safe and secured manner. Moreover, it will assist the corporations to do business on an international basis which will give corporations an opportunity for global exposure which will eventually help the corporations to gain higher
revenues.
