7. Magnetic Resonance Cholangiopancreatography (MRCP)
Using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with newer techniques and contrast materials, accurate anatomic images can be obtained of the bile ducts and the pancreatic duct. It has a sensitivity and specificity of 95 and 89 percent, respectively, at detecting choledocholithiasis. If available, MRI with MRCP offers a single noninvasive test for the diagnosis of biliary tract and pancreatic disease (Griffin, et al, 2012).
