Aim, Purpose and Concern
2.1. Aim
The paper aims at developing a Transit Oriented Development design that recognizes the importance in using the Kochi Metro by integrating the proposed surface elevated transit corridor with the existing city structure so as to generate maximum efficiency and quality on public environment and new opportunities in the city.
It also aims at restructuring the surrounding fabric by encouraging a high quality of living and making a compact development with diverse mix of uses.
2.2. Purpose of the …show more content…
• The site lacks hierarchy of network systems leading to unorganized transport systems.
7.1. Design Strategies
The design strategies developed are,
• Defining entry points to the site area by creating landmark structures at important locations.
• Introducing definite and connected open space system which would create greater public opportunities and presence.
• Introducing pedestrian oriented design.
• Organizing development in and around station and its precincts and prioritizing movement of vehicular and pedestrian to avoid chaos.
• Restructuring the road geometry with equal widths and sufficient pedestrian pathways.
• Multiple access and entries from all areas to the station.
• Creating a space by interconnecting the two areas for pedestrian with primary functions.
8. Conclusion
The paper is intended to integrate the new proposed Metro to the existing city structure using Transit Oriented Development. The identified principle of TOD which is applicable to the site is Compact, Mix, Density, Transit, Connect, Cycle, Shift, and Walk. By providing these, an highly efficient area to live is
