For about a year and a half now, the world has been in shock over the events the occurred in the Trayvon Martin case. Some may say that they are happy about the outcome of this trial! Many have had opinions about the events, but do their opinions show credibility?
The problem that the world does not understand is: We were not there; who are we to even have a comment about whether George Zimmerman was in the right for killing young Trayvon Martin? Last weekend, Washington Post writer, Gene Weingarten tweeted, “I don’t like George Zimmerman, and he caused this to happen, but from what I read, he will and should walk.” The fact of the matter is, Justin Peters, of the Slate.com blogs, agreed with this opinion in his article, by stating, “I think that they’re right.”

Even though a lot had happened at the time of the shooting, the world was not there. We should not go off of what others may thin or say! It should and supposed to be based off actual facts and events thru forensic science. But, even with factual evidence and events, one can and sometimes will never know what really happened unless they were there. Even with all the evidence and other statements given, how can we agree or disagree with these? How can we reassure that George Zimmerman statement show credibility? Trayvon Martin is not here to give his side of the story, so how can the world rely on others facts and

On February 26, 2012, 17-year old Trayvon Martin, was on his way home after a stop to the local convenience shop when he was shot by volunteer neighbourhood watcher, George Zimmerman. Martin was on the phone with his girlfriend when he noticed that he was being followed by Zimmerman. Zimmerman reported to the police that Martin looked suspicious and then continued to follow Martin, contradicting what the police had instructed him to do. He then proceeded to shoot Martin which according to Zimmerman, was out of self-defence. He also claimed that Martin pummelled him to the ground, but there were no other witnesses to support this. Zimmerman was later declared not guilty and was given no…

With a controversial topic at hand, the case of Trayvon Martin and the real facts as to what happened the night he was shot come to conclusion. The Trayvon Martin Tragedy, exists as the undigestable story of an adolescent African American male who is shot upon by a neighborhood watch captin by the name of Geroge Zimmerman with nothing to defend himself but a bag of Skittles, an Arizona Iced Tea, and a cell phone. With factual eveidence, witnesses, and 911 phone call recordings we uncover wether Zimmerman shot Martin as anything but self defense. Due to the fact that Trayvon was walking back to his home while on the phone with his girlfriend, he wasn’t stirring up any causes for trouble. The act of his suspiousness was merely upon judgement and race. Zimmerman was not truthful in his statements during the trial and begins to show several slip ups in evidence and reasonable explanations.…

    Media Bias Hum/111 Week 3

The importance of making critical evaluations of news stories come to play in the recent story about the Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman case. This is a story about a young black teenager and a neighborhood watchman that shot and killed young Trayvon. Many news stations reported the story showing pictures of both of them that had been taken years prior to the actual event. Trayvon’s pictures showed him as an innocent boy and Zimmerman as upset and angry in a much earlier mug shot. The media also showed bias to both these individuals and seemed to be concerned with sensationalism, rather than finding out the true facts in the case. The concern they showed at the time the story broke, appeared to be geared towards selling the story and building the story into a racially motivated incident. The news was not completely clear or accurate and the investigative methods were not sufficient in either depth or breadth. The stories promoted the idea that Trayvon was an innocent young black kid who just happened to be out late at night and that Zimmerman was just looking to act as judge, jury and executioner. The pictures of George Zimmerman seemed to promote prejudice and negative emotions from the audience. They used bias in the news by deliberately ignoring more current pictures of both these individuals. Many of the news channels seemed to deliberately ignore the truth of the story regarding what type of people both Trayvon and George were. A mug shot of a younger angry looking Zimmerman and a more recent picture shows Zimmerman in a dress coat and tie with him clearly smiling shows a distinct disregreard for truthful reporting and bias in reporting. The news clearly chose to ignore any alternative perspectives in regards to this story. The stories focused on accusing Zimmerman of being an angry, trigger happy watchman who took it upon himself to deliver justice without waiting for the police to show…

Ever been accused of manslaughter or been called a racist?Well, George Zimmerman has, in the Trayvon Martin case. Many people believe that if you are accused of murder like George Zimmerman does. They will just call you a racist and a murderer. Opinion and facts is a big part of this case, and obviously, he was the one who kill Trayvon Martin. However, he still has pleaded not guilty because he claims that it was just self-defense and not murder. Eventually, Zimmerman won the case because verdict found him not guilty, and a jury of six women found him also not guilty. I think that some people didn’t believe about Zimmerman claim; at the same time, some people may believe it.…

This article is a good bias source especially because it is about these two men who have both different races. All of which explains why neither side in the Martin/Zimmerman saga is defending the basic fairness of our judicial system. Both agree that America’s courts are biased. They just disagree about whom they’re biased against. “We live in a world where there isn’t equal justice. This case never, never would have been brought if the races were reversed,” said one TV pundit the day after the verdict. Al Sharpton? No, Ann Coulter, arguing that America’s judicial system is massively skewed against whites. “If Floridians are of a mind to let off a little steam, they might usefully burn down the Sanford courthouse and salt the earth. The justice system revealed by this squalid trial is worth rioting over,” added a well-known columnist. Cornel West? No, National Review’s Mark Steyn, arguing that the trial was absurdly slanted against Zimmerman.…

First, I would like to bring to your attention that George Zimmerman was found not Guilty of the murder of Trayvon Martin under the 'Stand your ground law' This law which is placed gives individuals the right to use deadly force to defend themselves without having to retreat from a dangerous situation However, When Zimmerman called 911 and explained to the police department about the suspicious of Trayvon Martin the police officer informed him not to follow yet Zimmerman continue to follow him after the dispatcher told him there was no need to do so Surely if George Zimmerman after calling a dispatch unit because he felt unsafe why did he feel the need to then follow the young teenager he is now inserting himself into what he declared to be a dangerous situation Knowing full well that he was armed, Zimmerman followed Trayvon in his car AND on foot meaning he left his car making the decision to bring his gun in order to pursue and confront someone Here you can see he was clearly wanting trouble. he was ordered not to follow him. But he did so he has no right to claim self-defense. He was asking for a fight and he got one, with a kid he thought to be dangerous. we can clearly see George Zimmerman was the instigator and placing himself into this position and then use the act of self defense to justify murder of an innocent unarmed teenager. I don't think he set out to shoot Treyvon Martin, but in the end, he did and that was his choice he was warned not to approach the boy and decided to neglect the warning and take it into his own hands he simply took advantage of an opportunity trying to play the part of a…

There are some speculations about this case could be a police cover up, some of the witnesses who were questioned said they heard Trayvon screaming but the police, corrected them and said it was Zimmermans screams they heard. Also the police didn’t want to relise the 911 calls that were made around the shooting.…

To start, there is no on-the-table evidence to prove that Zimmerman had clear intentions to kill Martin. Due to the spontaneity of the occurrence, there is no way that Zimmerman could have possibly planned premeditated murder. There were no bystanders that can accurately depict the scenario. Some claimed that they seen Martin on top of Zimmerman which is not sufficient evidence to prove that either party was at fault. To counter argue, one could say that Zimmerman should have not been following him to begin with. However, if he feels that there is an issue, he has every right to report so. There is no evidence that can prove that either party was of wrong-doing. There are simply only small fragments of the occurrence that can be recalled from the witnesses and the phone call to 911 that Zimmerman…

Days after Trayvon's death, celebrities, media personalities and activists used social media to demand the Sanford Police Department arrest, George Zimmerman. Some of the media's major mistakes stemmed from stories that fit neatly into that widely accepted narrative. NBC News edited Zimmerman's comments during a phone call to inaccurately suggest that he volunteered that Trayvon seemed suspicious because he was black. In fact, Zimmerman was responding to a question when he mentioned the teenager's race. The network apologized for the error.…

Imagine an African American teenage boy walking through an affluent, mostly white neighborhood and a man begins to chase him. Naturally, the boy begins to run and ask why he is being followed. Without an answer as to why he is being followed, he is then tackled, shot, and killed. This story reflects the true life account that took place in 2012 between Trayvon Martin, the African American boy, and George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch patrol. Zimmerman’s reasoning for following Martin, and eventually killing him, was that he looked “suspicious” and seemed dangerous (“Trayvon Martin Shooting,” 2015). The story of Trayvon Martin is one of thousands that take place everyday and is an example of racial profiling.…

1). Needless to say the mature reporter is capable of writing an effective article and “There is No Need to Change Stand Your Ground Laws” is no exception. In her introduction, Kam immediately opens up her argument by affirming her position and justifying it. She introduces the task force that was created, in the wake of the Zimmerman case, to determine exactly what her article stands for: keeping the stand your ground laws as is. Kam also uses this time to set up the credibility of her sources. The task force was appointed by Governor Rick Scott and was “comprised of prosecutors, criminal defense attorneys, law enforcement officials and Palm Beach County Circuit Judge Krista Marx” (Kam Par. 6). However, the experienced journalist isn’t without candor and also quoted the attorney, Benjamin Crump, who was representing the parents of Trayvon Martin. Crump was fiercely against the law and thought it gave too much freedom to…

Florida’s stand your ground law, is it allowing criminals to get away with murder? I will be completely honest. Florida’s stand your ground law fails because it prevents convictions for violent assaults and murders. It is being used as a loophole and promotes vigilantism. I had no idea this law existed until the sad; and very controversial death of unarmed 17 year old Trayvon Martin. With all the media surrounding this tragic story it’s very hard not to read an article or listen to the news. A young man’s life cut short February 26, 2012 as he walked from a store with a package of skittles and iced tea, returning to the home of his father’s fiancé. The man who shot him a neighborhood watchman named George Zimmerman. Mr. Zimmerman called police to report a suspicious person walking through his neighborhood, police advised him they were on their way to not pursue him, but when police arrived at the scene Trayvon Martin was dead, killed by one gunshot wound to the chest, fired by George Zimmerman.…

I could just feel the tension in the room as the defendants walked into the courtroom. People who had been talking and moving about just suddenly stopped to watch as Damien Echols and Jason Baldwin walked to their seats with their attorneys by their sides. They did not make eye contact with the parents of the victims. Who would though? I did not and I was not even on trial. I sat there waiting for court to start knowing that the verdict was going to be perfectly clear. They were guilty! I had already seen in all the papers and on the news stations enough to know they were devil worshippers. How my prospective would change by the end of the trial.…
