Assesment/Summary
Client Name: Antwone Fisher

Antwone was referred for treatment for a psych. Evaluation due to his recent and reoccurring altercations with others on the Navy Ship. Antwone has a lot of anger and aggression problems.
Antwone Fisher is a young African American male in his twenties. He was born in an Ohio Correctional facility where he was placed in an orphanage by the state until his mother could resume the responsibilities of him. However his mother abandoned him. His father Edward Elkins, was shot and killed, he never met him. Antwone was placed in the Tate foster home, where he grew up in Ohio. So, there have been many research studies that have been carried out by psychologists in the past which can show the effects of children failing to form attachments. One of the most common ones is Genie ‘The Feral Child’. Researchers found out that Genie, who was a 13 year old girl, was locked in a room all alone from when she was born, because her dad thought she was retarded. The teenage girl was often forgotten about when she was kept locked up in that room all by herself. She could not stand properly and she had a strange bunny-like-walk and she couldn’t speak other than the words ‘no more’ and ‘stop it’. She didn’t understand very much either and she was always spitting. Genie only weighed 59 pounds all in all; she had been lacking emotional care.…

Attachment theory describes the common human need to cultivate long-lasting affectional bonds with primary caretakers. According to Corsini and Wedding (2014), John Bowlby proposed that humans have an innate tendency to make strong affectional bonds and that separation or threat of separation of these bonds causes emotional distress, sadness, and in some cases more severe depression. A secure attachment comes from what the caretaker provides such as communication, security and availability. However, if the caretaker is not responding to the needs of the child, is not available, does not provide security or only communicates with the child in a negative way, this will create an insecure attachment. “Insecurely attached adolescents perceive the expression of negative feelings as unwelcome and unsafe, which reinforces the negative schema of self and others and thus makes the vulnerable to depression” (Diamond, Siqueland, & Diamond, 2003, pg. 109).…

The intensive program offered psychiatric treatment comparable to good hospital programs. Family therapy, group therapy, psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy are standard services included in treatment. Patients with specialized problems were referred for services in other Menninger programs. Key aspects of the treatment was a structured environment, emphasis on forming close relationships with child care workers, daily groups that addressed relationships with one another, managing anger, recreational and activities programs, sexuality and gender, classes in public schools when ready, and a therapeutic school on the grounds. There is a growing number of prisoners faced with mental illness which is leading to American prisons being turned into new mental asylums. There is a need for intervention but determining an affective method is the real challenge. As shown in the video, there is growing frustration among correction officers leading to what appears to be abuse between the prisoner and the officer. Correction officers are no longer only responsible for the security of the prison and the prisoners but for managing the mental health status of the mentally ill inmates and arranging plans accordingly.…
