1. Ideologies are important tools in framing the source of social problems based on their area of focus. Neoliberalism and neoconservatism are examples of two dominant ideologies that exist in today’s society. Neoliberalism ideologies promote individualism and free enterprise ideas and a limited role for government whereas neoconservatism focuses on more traditional social, moral, and religious values. Both of these dominant ideologies have aspects that promote inequality and injustice, to name a few. The triangle model of social analysis is a tool that can be used to examine how dominant ideologies frame social problems and how these ideas and discourses are reinforced through societal structures or institutions. We can see how the government, media and schools interconnect with their viewpoints regarding social problems through social analysis to improve our own understanding of the issue.
3. The self-reflective social action model is another tool that we can use when we want to analysis a social problem starting with ourselves as an individual. It allows us to self-reflect and focus on how we can challenge justice and inequality that dominant ideologies reinforce. This type of self-reflection of our own beliefs and viewpoints allows us to participate in critical thinking; as mentioned before, critical thinking is a very important skill in social analysis that allows us to better ourselves as global
