Triple Alliance Causes
World War I is known as The Great War. It was an international war between aligned countries. A sense of nationalism, imperialism, alliances and militarism caused tension between the Triple Alliance and the Triple Entente. The Triple Alliance was made up of Germany, Austria and Italy. England, France, and Russia made up the Triple Entente. One action caused a chain of reactions that caused each country to become involved for their own reasons. World War I all started with an assassination. The Black Hand is a terrorist group from Serbia. In 1914 the Blank Hand assassinated the heir to the Austrian throne, Franz Ferdinand. This resulted in Austria giving Serbia ultimatum. The ultimatum was to either let Autrians into serbia to search for the assassinator or they would declare war on Serbia. Serbia refused to let Austra into the country and that decision resulted in the first of the many countries who would declare war.
Austria and Serbia were at war. Each side had their own alliances with other countries. Austria was allied with Germany and Italy while Serbia was allied with Russia. Whenever Austria declared war on Serbia, Russia got involved. Germany also became involved and declared war against Russia. The series of chain reactions of allied countries becoming involved after their neighboring countries were being threatened.

After Russia declared war, Germany tired to make sure that France did not get involved. Germany tried to surround France by making allies with surrounding countries as a way of tell them not to interfere with the war. This effort did not work and in 1914 France and Germany declared war on each other. Both Germany and Austria were at war. Italy was suppose to be in an alliance with both Germany and Austria.     Some form of peace has existed in Europe due to the delicate power balance. However due to the rise of Militarism, and imperialism nationalism the balance, which existed in Europe was heavily distorted. Therefore, many countries were fearful for an attack.
