Troy Character Analysis Essay

Troy was a 53 year old African American man with no education; whom aspiration to become a professional baseball player was disintegrated by life itself and the time period that he was living. Troy was raised mainly by his authoritarian and abusive father. Troy’s upbringing was rough and difficult; he was the oldest of 11 children. When Troy was 7 years old his mother left him and his siblings in the hand of his abusive father and never return to save them, making Troy to become the protector of his younger sibling Gabriel. At the age of 14, Troy left his home due to constant abuse by his father losing all communication with his siblings with the exception of Gabriel. Part of his teenager years after leaving his home, Troy committed several crimes including murder a crime that sent him to prison for more than 14 years. Leaving his wife and his first son “Lyon” behind. During the time that he was incarnated met his best friend “Bono” who became his voice of reason. After years of incarceration, Troy was still dreaming to become a professional baseball player; however his age and the time period one again destroy his dream leaving him frustrated and feeling defeated. During the same time he met Rose to whom he married and formed a family bring to this world a second son named Cory. Since his opportunity of becoming a professional baseball player
was kill due to his age and his responsibility as a husband and as a father was more important to him, he stopped pursuing his dream and became a garbage collector for the department of sanitation. This job gave him the opportunity to provide for his family; however it also made him frustrated and upset, due to the fact that he felt stuck in life.
All his frustration made him seemed and perceive as insensitive and uncaring man towards his family especially towards his sons. Troy’s frustration and lack of affection towards his children was related to the relationship between him and his father. Troy’s father was an abusive man, whom for no reason beat him up for no reason. His relationship with his father created aggression, emotional distress, and bitterness.
Troy’s inability to show affection and his inability to express himself, made Troy seemed as a selfish and controlling man, when in reality he didn’t know how to deal with his reality and life obstacle.
Troy felt that his life was at stand and that he had nothing going for him. All his uncontrollable emotions, alcohol consumption, and aggressive behavior pushed away his younger son away. His behavior and attitude also led him to have an affair; an affair that according to him made him feel different and alive. An affair that came with a high price to paid. An affair that almost cause him his marriage and his life
stability.
