Understand the stages of child development- This is very important, you need to know for a number of reasons. Nursery teachers need to be able to see the child's level of ability. Abilities can differentiate at preschool age and an effective nursery teacher will meet each child level and guide them on their pathway to achievement. It is also important so they know understand the children that they are working with especially if they are responsible for taking care of them and teaching them. If you wanted to instruct a child and you didn't understand how to do because you don't understand what's going through their mind (stages of development) then the nursery teacher would struggle to get them to do as they are told. The nursery teacher needs to know what's normal for a child's development so that if a child is not developing normally it can be noticed and something can be done about it to help make the child better. By understanding the child's development this means the teacher can understand what the child needs to grow and flourish and how they think. If a nursery teacher does not understand the stages of child development another example of a problem could be if the child is having tantrums, then because the nursery teacher doesn't understand what's normal for a child they would have difficulty in calming the child down from their tantrum. If you were working with teenagers you wouldn't treat them like children because they are much more developed than children so for example they don't necessarily need the constant attention that children do. By understanding the range of stages of child development and development in other people e.g.…

I chose to become an early childhood professional because when I got out of high school I needed a job to pay my bills. But the main reason was because I loved being around children and at the time I did not have any of my own yet and there were none in my family either. So I thought “what a great way to spend the day and get paid to spend time with other people’s kids.” In the beginning it was really hard though. It was not all playtime, there were rules and regulations to follow. There was also daily…

Three professional skills you need when working with children are organisation because you need to be able to plan what lesson or activities you are going to do and make sure no one is using the equipment you are going to need, you also need to make sure you plan your time well so that your lesson finish on time and by the end of the day. You need to organise you’re resources so that you know where everything is and it is easy to find so you can get it straight away instead of having to look for it and waste lesson time. You need to be organised so that you can plan what to do for the day for example you have decided to do some painting with the class for the first lesson so before the children come to school get the paint and paper ready so as soon as you have marked the register you can start, a consequence of poor organisation would be that if the teacher didn’t know what they was going to do and then decided to paint they would start late and then the lesson would end latter and if someone wanted the paints after the lesson they would have to start late as well. Teamwork is when a group of people work together in a team to support one another, be patient and listen to everything everyone has to say, make sure everyone says their opinion because there need to be lots of communication. You also need to be honest if you don’t think that something a good idea you should say, try and find out everyone’s strength and area which need to be developed. If you work as a team you know you can ask for help and you haven’t got to do all the work by yourself you can share the responsibilities. If you don’t work in a team, you will find thing harder and you’ll do everything alone. In an early years practitioner the people that make up a team would be the manager, the deputy manager, teachers, teaching assistants and trainees/ students. Behaviour is very important as children role model you if they see you behaviour in a bad way or see you speaking in a bad way and they may…
