Tuesday Tunes Interpretive Response - “Growing Up” In the song “Growing Up” by Macklemore, Ryan Lewis, and Ed Sheeran, there is a dad, Macklemore, in the story that sings his advice to his unborn baby. The artist’s message is that unborn children will be needing plenty of helpful advice previously used by their parents in order to make them more successful than their parents. “Listen to your teachers, but cheat in calculus” is a line from the song and is a powerful example that demonstrates the fact that the dad is advising the baby. Literally, the dad wants his baby to do well in most parts of school, but the idiomatic meaning is that the dad wants his baby not to perfect, but good enough. Because the dad is telling
