It was a home game, the last game of region play, and the author talks about how tensions were running high between the two teams and the two crowds. It goes on to talk about how easily they defeated the rabbits by playing an unselfish game, and ended in victory defending the title from the west side for another year. The article talks about how amazing each of the senior players were this year, and how they were superstars on and off the court. “They led their team through the example of kindness and positive attitudes,” the article goes on to say. Truer to the game by Randy Horick is a short story, possibly an excerpt from something larger, about how women’s basketball more clearly reflects the essence of the game. He claims that for a multitude of reasons that I will discuss later in this, that women’s collegiate basketball and the WNBA are representative of the true nature of the sport. More shots from behind the 3-point line, less fouls, plays that happen at a speed you can understand, and more behind the scenes stuff is what differentiates men and women’s. He cites pressure to win as his main argument for the cause of the differences in the two. This pressure to win creates an environment of hostility; athletes only play at the collegiate level for a few short years, not earning…

Exposure is an important piece of the puzzle in pushing for equality, not only in the world of basketball, but the world of sports as a whole. Although, the WNBA is steadily climbing as the Forbes list reported “the league welcomed its current president, Laurel J. Richie, known for her marketing acumen, and introduced Boost Mobile as a marquee marketing partner. In 2012, the draft moved to ESPN’s headquarters. In 2013, the WNBA launched a new brand identity, extended its television partnership with ESPN, the "3 To See" rookies gained mainstream attention, and season 17 ended with record growth.” (Glass) The WNBA may not be on the same financial level or branding level as the NBA currently, but the league is now equipped with franchise owners…

I’ve never seen the film Love and Basketball, but it does sound like an inspirational film. I love that Monica still worked hard on reaching her goal as a basketball player. It’s nice that she found Quincy to share the love for basketball, but it’s too bad that their love for basketball is also the reason that they separated. It seems like the film shows how woman struggle from doing the same thing that is easily reached by men. Being stereotyped for being a woman in the sport, is her biggest struggle. I’m glad that she never gave up her dream, even if it was hard to reach. It looks like the film shows the woman struggle and determination to be someone they want to be in the man’s world. As woman we are expected to act certain way and I’m glad…

Basketball isn’t just a sport, it’s a lifestyle. It requires you to push yourself again and again and not give up until the final buzzer sounds. Basketball requires a lot of teamwork and that team is like your family. Working together like a family helps push every player to do their best and make each other proud. The History Of Basketball

Since its beginning over a century ago, basketball has evolved from a simple form of exercise with only a few rules to a highly competitive and complex national sport. Basketball was invented by James Naismith at a YMCA in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1891 (Fox 11-13). It began as an activity for the “‘ball-game’ void” months of winter (Hanson 65), and Naismith had five standards for the game. He wanted a ball that could be handled by a player’s hands; no one was to run with the ball, and anyone could grab the ball from another player as long as the ball was in play. There was to be no personal contact, and the goal was to be raised from the ground. He created the idea and standards for basketball by combining certain aspects of American…

It was her very first basketball game. Chase came with me to, my older brother, Nate’s basketball game. We arrived just as the Chelsea Hornets were getting ready. The warmth of the gym wrapped around our bodies, and the scent of teenage boy sweat filled our nostrils, making me almost retch. Chase sounded very excited when she asked me, “Where should we sit?” As any normal little girl would do, we both raced each other to the top of the blue high school bleachers and sat down in sync. My mom, little brother, Soren, and older sister, Lexi, followed behind the two of us while Nate ran out to the court to join his Chelsea Hornet basketball buddies. The game went on with the Hornets losing by seven points. Moms among the crowd were yelling about unjust fouls made towards their team.…
