First Basketball Game Narrative
It was her very first basketball game. Chase came with me to, my older brother, Nate’s basketball game. We arrived just as the Chelsea Hornets were getting ready. The warmth of the gym wrapped around our bodies, and the scent of teenage boy sweat filled our nostrils, making me almost retch. Chase sounded very excited when she asked me, “Where should we sit?” As any normal little girl would do, we both raced each other to the top of the blue high school bleachers and sat down in sync. My mom, little brother, Soren, and older sister, Lexi, followed behind the two of us while Nate ran out to the court to join his Chelsea Hornet basketball buddies. The game went on with the Hornets losing by seven points. Moms among the crowd were yelling about unjust fouls made towards their team.
About halfway through the boredom that grew between the two of us, Chase asked

This should cover it.” and handed us two crisp dollar bills. We got the skittles and returned to our seats. Lexi took the shiny change, jiggled it in her hands and put it back into her wallet. “ Do you wanna come with us back in the locker room with us, Lexi?”, Chase asked. “No thanks.”, Lexi replied most likely because of the group of teenage boys that seemed “too cool for school” who strolled in way too late. Chase ignored them and jumped down step to step, somewhat in a hurry. I followed her down into the locker room running my fingers across the braille once more. The locker room was in some way a mysterious place full of wonders eight year olds never knew existed. We played childish games throughout the locker room. Whenever someone came in we pretended we were washing our hands, holding back laughter. Around the beginning of the fourth quarter, Chase and I started playing truth or dare. “ Charlie, I dare you to get in one of the lockers.” I got up fearlessly, opened a locker, and got in

He went down to the office to get a tour he thought he didn’t need because he remembered every single solitary thing about this place. While the tour was going on everything going on was a blur. He looked left, right and left again, admiring the changes the school had made. “Wow” he sighed. “Is there a problem Rufus?” the tour guide asked. Rufus answered, “When I was here the wall paint was all chipped, there were broken windows and holes in the walls.” “Oh ok, well that concludes our tour and this door on your right is your first period class.” The tour guide replied. Rufus walked in and sat at an available seat at the back of the class room. He opened his notebook and took notes even though he didn’t understand anything that was going on. By the time 5th period came around it was time for lunch he was starving. All of his friends called him over and asked him to sit with him. Momma didn’t make him a big lunch because they didn’t have that much food in the house and then needed to split it 3 different ways. Allison who used to have a big crush on Rufus sat right next to him. Mitchell and Charlie sat across from him and Christina, Alisha and Sammy sat around them. On January 26th, I made a huge error in my basketball game against West Central. To anybody else, that game might have seemed unimportant- insignificant really. They were not a conference rival or a sectional team. To me however, this game was very significant because I used to attend that school. At that game, I played all of my friends from kindergarten to fifth grade. I hoped that I didn’t make a fool of myself. I hoped to do amazing so that all of my old friends would see what a great basketball player I had become. I hoped that I would make a play so amazing that everyone would remember it. While I would certainly not forget the play I made, it was not the spectacular one I had dreamed. My gym teacher- Mr. Prairie asked the class, “Who’s ready for the basketball game tonight against West Central,” and I wondered if I was. Because of my insistent worrying I could not manage to make a play through all of gym class (we were playing basketball)…

    The History Of Basketball

    • 3 Pages

Since its beginning over a century ago, basketball has evolved from a simple form of exercise with only a few rules to a highly competitive and complex national sport. Basketball was invented by James Naismith at a YMCA in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1891 (Fox 11-13). It began as an activity for the “‘ball-game’ void” months of winter (Hanson 65), and Naismith had five standards for the game. He wanted a ball that could be handled by a player’s hands; no one was to run with the ball, and anyone could grab the ball from another player as long as the ball was in play. There was to be no personal contact, and the goal was to be raised from the ground. He created the idea and standards for basketball by combining certain aspects of American…
