Carolan attended a school for the blind in Cruisetown, Ireland. Brigid was the teenage daughter of Carolan’s old schoolmaster from the school for the blind. At fifty years of age, In 1720, O'Carolan married Mary Maguire. Their first family home was situated in Mohill, County Leitrim. They settled in a small cottage on a piece of land given to them as a wedding gift. They had seven children, six daughters and one son. Mary Carolan died in 1733. Turlough O'Carolan died on 25th of March 1738. Carolan is now buried in Kilronan Burial Ground in County Roscommon. He was buried privately in the MacDermott Roe’s family crypt.
