TV Show Analysis how to develop
T.V. Show Analysis – how to develop a body paragraph
(Remember that you should have at least three body paragraphs, and they should come directly after you introduce your reader to the show you plan to analyze).
Follow this basic format for each body paragraph:

1) Point out a significant aspect of the show. Briefly describe it. (This could be your describing a character, a situation / scenario, or a combination of both, from the show.)
2) Explain how this (#1) relates to Waters’ critique. Does it fit what he says or not? (You should use his name very explicitly – e.g. “This does adhere to Waters’ critique in that…”). If, however, you created your own critique (as I said you could), you do NOT have to relate it back to Waters’ critique. In this case, you’d be relating it back to your own critique.
3) Analyze whether what you described adheres to what he says and in what way it is problematic or not (and why or why not?). Ultimately, the analysis would go one of three ways: 1) it will either fit exactly what he says, 2) it could be just the opposite (a positive portrayal), or 3) be a negative portrayal, but negative in a different way from what Waters describes. Any of the three are valid! Explain what effect it has on viewers and why. Explain what attitudes tend to result in people when they see things such as this and the further effect that has on other aspects of our lives. (Can also make a distinction between different types of viewers). Or explain why attitudes that would seem to result from the representation actually do NOT (and why). If the representation is a “mixed message,” which one trumps the other and why? And what ultimate cultural message is sent to viewers? What larger societal concerns are affected by these perceptions?

Example:
Smash Williams is one of a few African American characters on Friday Night Lights and has the most prominent role. We are presented with a young man who is extremely confident in his ability to
