Hello. Today I’m going to explain how the representations of Australian Culture in TV are accurate. I have here with me three sources: The Castle, Kath & Kim and 48 shades. These all have a fairly accurate view on what it’s like in Australia (mostly Logan), although some skits are a little far fetched. In each show they have their own kind of representation, The castle represents the racism, Kath and Kim represent the bogan image and “48 shades” shows us the wild side of it all.
There are many things we could focus on in “The Castle” but I’d like to take a look at racism. Now, we know that there is in fact a foreigner there, but he doesn’t quite fit in. The characters in the movie aren’t racist to the foreigner know …show more content…
Kath is an older woman who still attends TAFE to take a flower arrangement course, she doesn’t have a Job but she lives off the income of her live-in boyfriend (Kel). Kim is Kath’s daughter, and she is by far what we would call Bogan. Kim has no job, is extremely lazy and relies on her fiancée Brett for EVERYTHING. At one point in the series, Kim attempts to get pregnant (Taking many pregnancy tests that read “- -“which actually means positive BUT she thinks it means she’s not pregnant). Kath and Kim also mispronounce words and confuse their meanings, with a quote from Kim to support it “Are you a psycho or something?” She says this meaning “psychic”. When you think about it there are MANY Australians that are like this, you’re more likely to find them in cheaper areas or housing commissions. This is why Logan is filled with people like this, because it is a cheap area. In Logan we have many homes for housing commission and lots of people on the dole simply because of its cheapness. People in housing commissions and such are usually what we consider Bogan. You could also refer to a TVs. Show called “houseos” this show is all about people on the dole and people in housing commissions. Both of these accurately represent some of the people throughout
