B. Specific Purpose: To persuade the audience to take action to urge their congress person to vote against S.992 - The National Nursing Shortage Reform and Patient Advocacy Act
II Introduction / Attention
A. Gain attention: Picture this. Your loved one had surgery yesterday. A nurse is fixing their morphine drip when their manager comes in and tells the nurse they are required to take their break at that specific moment. Your loved one is left, in pain, until the relief nurse can be found. Would you want to watch someone suffer because the nurse had to take a break?
B. Introduce topic: Today I will be sharing information about The National Nursing Shortage Reform and Patient Advocacy Act and why I’m against it’s passage.
C. Benefit/Need: All of you will either be in the hospital as a patient or to visit a patient and in so doing, will come into contact with nurses. Wouldn’t you want the best care for yourself and your loved ones?
D. Preview body of speech: First, I will share with you what a nurse-to-patient ratio is. Second I will describe what the bill is about. Next, I will inform you of the advantages of passing the bill and last, I will explain the disadvantages of passing the bill.
